Morning Folks, Seem to have become stuck trying to update our existing build images. We have for images that could do with the usual stuff updating and a few changes. To be honest I don't know how to update them so have been guessing :/ I have rebuilt a machine with one of the images, as we normally do, made the changes, ran SysPrep and then in both MDT and WDS created a variety of task sequences to try and capture the image. I have had success with WDS capting the image, but then when I reploy to another machine I get errors, some relating to panther files etc. Is there a guide or a way in which we can update our images? Thanks in anticipation Stu

I used to have that on the last network, but this network has been setup on a share. Would you use GPO to manage the updates? Stu

Didn't even think of that, thank you pete! Stu

Morning Folks, Hoping this is a quick one. We basically redirect staff desktops to a shared from the server. When the users are at home the icons just go grey and have a cross next to them. Is there anyway we can cache the desktop redirect on the laptop to prevent this from happening. Regards Stu

Thats basically what I want to do, collect all of the videos up, upload them to the website and then staff can search for them as they need them. Regards Stuart

Thanks for the prompt replies. I would host this internally and only allow access to the videos from inside the network. I know the infrastrucutre would support this. Regards Stuart

Hi Folks, Seems we have been gathering a very large collection of video files over the years on the shared area, and it has gotten a little messy. I was looking for some form of video storage solution which would be online like a mini YouTube where we could upload and manage the videos, moving the off the shared area and onto this. We can create a new server instantly if we can find the right solution. Only limitiations are that, as usual, there is no money. Open Source solutions anyone? Thanks Stuart

Good Morning Folks, Thanks for the replies. We use public calendars for a vairety of stuff including room bookings etc, but we ideally would like to put our internal school calendar online. I have made a public calendar and tried but it required you to authenticate, and we don't want that Regards Stuart

Hi Guys, Thanks for the replies. I have found displayNamePrintable in AD. I have changes this value to what I would like my external emails display name to be, but doesn't see to have done the trick. Have I missed something? Regards Stuart
-
Hi, Thank you for the reply. That is exactly what I want to achieve! However in AD I cannot see the SimpleDisplayName We are running Exchange 2007 with Windows Server 2008 OS. Regards Stu

Hi Folks, Me again! Is it possible to change your display name on external email? Currently we have ours set as Surname Initial. However my surname always leads to suppliers calling for the wrong person, or my email responses starting with my surname I don't want to change it for all staff, nor change mine so it sticks out like a sore thumb in the address book. Regards, Stu

Hi Folks, Hoping someone can help. Basically in our school we have quite a few calendars floating around, include a spreadsheet and a google calendar, and also an exchange calendar. I was wondering if it was possible to have an exchange calendar that can be publically seen, without users having to login, where I can embed it onto the school website, This way we could get rid of the google calendar and the spreadsheet. Trying to make people work smarter... Regards, Stu

Hi Folks, Having a mass clear out this week. I want to be able to have a script at the root of the home directories that creates directories and sets permissions on the folder so that the students cannot delete them. I have used the following code to create the structure in the home areas: for /d %%x in (*) do mkdir "%%x\Year 7" for /d %%x in (*) do mkdir "%%x\Year 7\Art" for /d %%x in (*) do mkdir "%%x\Year 7\Beliefs and Values" for /d %%x in (*) do mkdir "%%x\Year 7\Music" for /d %%x in (*) do mkdir "%%x\Year 7\Technology" for /d %%x in (*) do mkdir "%%x\Year 7\History" for /d %%x in (*) do mkdir "%%x\Year 7\English" for /d %%x in (*) do mkdir "%%x\Year 7\Drama" for /d %%x in (*) do mkdir "%%x\Year 7\Media" for /d %%x in (*) do mkdir "%%x\Year 7\PE" for /d %%x in (*) do mkdir "%%x\Year 7\MFL" for /d %%x in (*) do mkdir "%%x\Year 7\Geography" for /d %%x in (*) do mkdir "%%x\Year 7\Science" for /d %%x in (*) do mkdir "%%x\Year 7\Maths" for /d %%x in (*) do mkdir "%%x\Year 7\ICT" for /d %%x in (*) do mkdir "%%x\Whole School" I was thinking of using SetACL.exe for permissions, but dont know how. Does anyone have any ideas as to what permission I would need to set. Regards Stuart

Brilliant, thanks folks! Working a treat now!

I have made a little bit of progress with this now. Users are able to login and it create the profile fine, however now it denies admins access to the profile without the admin taking ownership. Have you seen this before? I thought I had it sus'd it but then I get this 😞

Mobile technology ehh! That may have done the trick, thank you so much. I did try and find that folder but didn't see it! Once again thank you. Regards Stu

Hey, I have deployed a desktop redirect that contains two shortcuts. When I login, it pulls down the desktop icons and about 12 others. Is there an option, like the start menu, where you can have it not show those icons. I was hoping to find something like and All Users folder and be able to delete them from there but no joy. We are running Windows 7 Clients, Server 2008 Hope this makes sense, and thanks in advance Stu

Thank you for your reply. I have tried both ways of pointing to the profile. In have tried a variety of permissions, including going everyone full control in both I see if it was permission related. As the moment I am happy to clear the settings and start again as this has only been applied to try accounts. Regards Stu

Hi Folks, I hope someone can help me. I have basically tried to setup roaming profiles for staff users, but to no avail! I have created a share on the server (\\SRV\StaffProfiles$) with the share permissions of EVERYONE - Full Control. I created a new account in AD and pointed the profile to \\SRV\StaffProfiles$\%Username% When the account is logged on it just seems to create a local profile and when I look on the server there isn't a folder created. Does anyone have any advice, or maybe a guide to help me with this. I am running Windows Server 2008 Ent, with windows 7 clients. Thanks in advance, Stu

Thanks Simon. Is there a way to auto answer the GPUpdate so I can run the script and it will automatically say yes to the reboot?

Hi Folks, Quick question. I have notice that some of the client machines don't seem to pull down the GPO's or they error. Is there a way that I could logon to the machine as an admin and maybe run a script that would get the machine to pull down the policies (maybe deleting thetm and forcing an update). I deployed a wallpaper via GPO and not all of the machines have picked it up and some of the students are still bringing down the old wallpaper. The machine all switch off at the end of the day, so have had a change to reboot etc. Any ideas whould be great. Regards Stuart

Hi Folks, Wondering if someone can help me with this... Basically we have decided we want to keep a historic list of news published in the school website. I have managed to do this by means of creating a folder and adding the RSS feed through a Frog brick. I am trying to do this for out 'Upcoming Events' section but I am unsure of how to have the RSS Feed display a photo/image and the title. I have a rough idea of how to do this in a normal RSS Feed but I don't in Frog. Thanks in advance Stuart
