Quick question for you all. Where I work we are in the process of splitting our larger network into separate smaller domains for each school. This makes it easier for us to manage individual changes to school setups. We have a number of technicians each with their own Admin account on each domain. We have our central server in the office and this too has our domain admin accounts on it. Is it possible to synchronise the central server password with all the other school domains, thus eliminating the need to manually change it on all sites?? e.g. Main Server OU is technicians Users are Admin1 Admin2 Admin3 School Server 1 OU is technicians Users are Admin1 Admin2 Admin3 School Server 2 OU is technicians Users are Admin1 Admin2 Admin3 Admin 1 changes his password to ElephantTrunk2 on the main server and this is propogated to all the other servers at midnight that night. Hope that makes sense as it does inside my head.

I play this game most nights and really enjoy it. I'm better in defence than up front though.

[Powershell] Move User Documents folder based on OU contents

[Powershell] Move User Documents folder based on OU contents
LeightonJames posted a topic in Scripts
The title is awful but I'm not sure how else to phrase it. The problem I have is this: We are looking at ways of automating the rollup of Students using Powershell. We are renaming OU's and importing the new starters into a new OU (YearR). Year1 becomes Year2 etc... This is easy enough and is already done. What we would like to do is move the documents folders for the Leavers into an archive folder. Ideally this should be one Powershell command. I don't have that firm a grasp of Powershell so I cannot work out how to do it. I understand how to read the data from the OU and get it to display he users Name. What I need to do is this: Read Users Username from specified OU (what do I change in this command to do that - Get-ADObject -Filter 'Name -like "*"' -Searchbase 'OU=Year7,OU=Pupils,OU=Users,OU=School,DC=SchoolName,DC=Local') Use the usernames listed in a Move-Item command Hopefully this makes sense to someone. Thanks -
This inspired me to play the game again last night. So much fun!!

Query AD for next available computer name NO POWERSHELL
LeightonJames replied to LeightonJames's topic in Scripts
Thanks for the reply, we are splitting up our large network into individual sites and we are renaming the machines on site to make it easier to identify them (and to tidy up AD). I have found this script through my google-fu but I get an error when I try to run it: error is Line 51 character 1 Loop without Do -
How would I go about querying AD for the next available computername and then naming a machine that? I can't use powershell as we cannot guarantee that PS is installed on all the machines and the script has to work on XP too. I have a batch file that I am using to do a number of other functions so I can call this script from there. Example: schoolWS-001 schoolWS-002 schoolWS-004 schoolWS-005 I have 2 machines to add, one will take 003 and the other will take 006 Sorry if this is a very simple process but my scripting skills do not extend very far and I've been asked to automate a lot of processes in order to streamline the way we work. Thanks
