  1. I had the interview this morning, they will let me know tomorrow if I got the job or not. To be honest I don't think it went well so I would be surprised if I got the job. Just out of interest if you were interviewing someone which room would you have it taken place? Mine was in Art class and I thought id be interviewed in one of their offices or in a IT room.
  2. Thanks How long the interview last for generally, also I have noticed on this forum that people know if they are successful at the end of day so how long on average people get to know if they are successful or not. I am also surprised that you get feedbacks ..don't know any other sector do this. Praying I get the job...
  3. I am near York too!
  4. I Would like to offer my sincere thanks to Witch who provided me with a great service. She looked over my Application supporting statement and made necessary additions and subtractions. This tightened up the statement and I now have an interview next Wednesday as a result. I would highly recommend her critique. Thank you Fintan
  5. What cat? I don't see any cat there
  6. Have a look in your BIOS and change settings there. Happned to me i turned the "sata mode" in bios from "ahci" to "raid" and then it works.. Just dont ask why though. some times i386 (32bit) version of ubuntu works better than 64 bit so give that one a try.
  7. I agree the do work :-) Long you dont leave them in a pile or tumble drier for too long, even if you did does not take long to iron though.
  8. Thanks GrumbleDook I have bookmarked it.
  9. I used to have a server for testing things but ended up mainly as a PVR ( Mythtv) until my yongest 2 year old broken one of our freinds sony playstation3 . rather than forking out a new one for them they were happy to take the pvr Still getting casts offs broken pcs and now in a process of doing a new one, I only have get a new hard drive (willl look at freecycle) and I am done. Anyone got any cool ideas/project that I could do?
  10. Is there a section on this forum where I could look up what each Abbreviation means? Would be handy for new people like me.
  11. I like to thank imiddleton25 for letting me watch him and Michael work and get a better idea what a ICT technician entails. If there is ever a harassed underpaid understaffed network manager you only have to look at him It gave me real insight how the IT department of a school works and has provided me with a lot of ammunition for my application.

    My Linux Experiment

SC-UK I hope you don't think I thought you were conned or whatever... just few people I know. I like reading your linux experiment and happy to read that you were determined to make it work but to be honest at the end of the day its what you prefer. If I had the money I would definatly buy a mac I wouldn't be surprised if people came up to you with a *broken laptop* a linux suse enterprise netbook (prob a mobile phone deal with a free netbook thrown in) asking you to fix it cos your a "pc expert". I could see this happening and some trying out linux to see if they could fix the problem in future.. (if you get my meaning?) thats perhaps some of us need to think about in future? I have the same thing with people asking me to fix their mac of course I tell them I am unable to and suggest a few people I know that might be able to help. Envious that you were able to do all 3 think I will start convincing my wife that we need a mac but any excuse to why we need one is gratefully accepted

    My Linux Experiment

I have been with Linux for well over 10 years now and I agree with some of the comments. I find that if some people bought or conned into buying Apple mac and they prefer their old xp, after relising they have wasted a lot of money they tend to stick with it ... most get so used to a different way of working they never go back to windows. With Linux its free and they give up and reinstall xp. I run a local LUG ( Linux User Group) have any of you tried them? You be surprised how useful they are if your stuck on something there always someone who will help out. Sometimes someone who show how its done is far much better than reading it on a forum also we all are not windows experts and its great to get tips from them aswell not forgettting mac users aswell. I use Linux 99% of the time at home only boot into windows if I need to recreate the problem people are having and find way of solving it. and my 9 to 5 job is windows only.

  16. I am a Component Nesting Computer Programmer at a Large engineering firm in North Yorkshire. My aim in life is to work as a ICT Technician and a post in the Secondary School near where I live has come up vacant which I would love to do. I have no experience in working in a school or with young people. My ICT qualifications are City and Guilds Diploma in ICT Practice with A+ and Diploma for ICT Practitioners. I have great deal of skills and expertise in all areas of ICT which is mainly self taught over 20 odd years. additionally to my current job I work freelance and for next to nothing/as a favour as a PC/Laptop repairmen for friends/neighbours and their acquaintances in my local area. I get a lot of requests for my services and customers are always really happy with my work. What I wish to ask the forum is whether what i have is relevant to the post I am hoping to go for? I was told I should go for this job by one of the teachers (who works there) who I did a PC repair for a few days ago. Please help me to word my application form/supporting letter right or just some common sense advice would be great. Thanks Fintan
