  1. Hey I will take them off your hands My techy has been in communication with you previously PM me if the school want paying ... and we can arrange a pickup
  2. Our school access the website is fudged as well... however I am more inclined to beleive that this is due to a mistake in the way they have interpreted the heirachy of names rather than any web upgrade plot conspiracy. My Bursar is the name on the administrator line of the agreement (because he signed the agreement)Despite me putting my name down as the admin My name is down as Tech Contact According to or reseller (from an email They cant change the admin name as:-- Quote" Please note that after checking School agreement XXXXXXX we found that the current Distributor is different than “XXXX EMEA” (which is indeed the Reseller for this agreement). Therefore, the Indirect/Reseller should contact the current Distributor for this agreement in order to request this change, since as per rules for SMS&P programs (i.e.School), only the Disti is entitled to request changes to Microsoft EOC. " Unquote In otherwords or seller has to chase it with his seller (and so on) until we get to the Distributer ... who can change the permissions and names. Basically we wait until we can get a bod to change a name and then we should be able to change everything else. What a balls up
  3. Another reason to do some training course has shown itself We have just moved from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 I moved my staff users and mailboxes over with little problems ... but these have been ironed out. The issue is the 1000 students! They have to be re set up as the mailboxes have not been moved over from Exchange 2003. However Server 2008 and exchange 2007 do not operate in the same way I cant find a multi user setup tool to set all 1000 students ... or subset thereof. Am I once again displaying a large amount of dork? (rhetorical) Please help
  4. Then I am being a dork brain .... (:)please dont repeat that to anyone:)) All i can see in the admodify program under exchange is set homeMTA, set homeDB, set msExchUseOAB and Set msExchQueryBaseDN I want to change / set msExchHomeServer ??
  5. could it possibly be done with LDIFDE.exe?
  6. We have moved from Exchange 2003 to 2007 and have a few issues with the moving of the mailboxes. Suffice it to say I need to mass edit the ADSI object msExchHomeServer on 1100 users Does anyone know of an easier way then to use adsiedit and do each one individually? Heres hoping.
  7. Does anyone know where I can get 20 ish Clientron TC3570 Thin Clients repaired. Our Supplier has gone bust and I am left with 2 year old machines that are broken ..... despite having a projected 7 year life .....(sob) Any help would be appreciated
  8. The users should not loose anything. I agree with teddykgb all mail will get merged ..and the worse that should happen is a few duplicated messages
  9. Yeah I am noob .... but what is BSF ?
  10. We have been using Ericom for about 6 months now serving all student faced school applications on over 100 thin clients. The software is easy to use and not too difficult to administer. At £12k for the license was't cheap for our userbase ... but is a heck of a lot cheaper that citrix. we have had a few problems with the student users and some of the applications we try to run on it ...... Dreamweaver kept dying and loading incorrectly ... but an upgrade to the latest version of the client and server fixed these. In summary ... I LIKE IT
  11. This usualy happens to us after an new install as the basic install of the FMS software never puts the files in the correct place for them to be found by the ini files when it is run. Also have a look at the system DSN config in ODBC they screw up for us as well
  12. We have a small problem which I hope someone can shine a light on. We use McAfee EPolicy Orchestrator to distribute our virus solution around the school. however Virusscan 8 kills the new thin client network machines better than the off switch. So we want to prevent EPO from distributing and installing the virusscan software ......... And there is the problem If we add the machines to the domain the EPO runs hourly and distributes it payload ...... the machine is slower than a I286 with 256K mem running Win 3.1 Any clues how we can prevent EPO from running on a select group of machines?

    IP Cameras

If you want good(ish) quality images dont go all colour. Have a couple of colour cameras to get the whole shop area to identify the colours of clothes etc ... but get better quality B/W cameras to cover specific areas in great detail. One brand of cameras I do like is WATEC they are analogue cameras but the images are crystal clear. (The police use them for covert survielance as well so they do come "highly recomended" )
  14. I would argue that the DPA does not have any relevance to home drives and shared drives. The DPA covers personal/private information stored by companies, organisations about individuals. DOB, Addresses, NI Numbers etc. This data specific to each individual. Home and Shared drives are areas that staff / students dump crap in when they cant be bothered to find a better place to store it Surely the establishment's AUP should cover this. I/we work thus 1. The school owns the equipment, pays for the electricity, heating etc. 2. The school own the interlecual property rights on all data created or stored on school machines. 3. I manage the school systems for the governors and Head/Chair of Govs. 4. They require me to carry out checks to ensure that the school (and ultimately they) are not breaching any laws. Thus I and my "lad" are permitted to go anywhere .... assuming we have a sysadmin or security reason to do so. My answer to staff and students when they complain is simple. (Other than "Tough $%^&"). If you have something "secret" or "personnal" store it on a pen drive away from school services.
  15. As far as I am aware ... Unless you have a contract that says different the deal with breaks is as follows. Under old H&S rules You were entitled to a 5 minutes break for every hour of work done. Thus by 10:30 ish you are entitlied to a 10 minutes coffee brk, same in the afternoon. ALL employed staff are REQUIRED to take a MID SHIFT break (lunch break to day workers). this break MUST be no less than 30 minutes and is taken OUTSIDE the working day (ie unpaid) So if you start at 08:30 break for lunch at 12:00 till 12:30 afternoon session 12:30 til 16:30 You are doing a 7.5 hour paid working day. thus 37.5hrs per week. However as most of us are DSE Users (within the confines of the new DSE Regulations) Our management are supposed to ensure that our working day are split up in such a way that no more than 1 hour at a time is spent infront of a screen. Then there should be work detailed that takes us away from the screen environment for at least 5 minutes. All this is of course down to management to organise.... and as we all know that is foobar :?
  16. I have had similar problems with FMS and all I could do was do the install from CD (which failed to work after updating) Then copy all files in /program files/SIMS/FMS to the new machine from a known updated working machine. Not an ellegant fix, but it works.
  17. Whilst this may seem a tad cynical, Software development companies dont give a stuff about how easy or hard it is to manage, install or run thier software. They dont sell it to the enlightened higher beings(Us) they sell it to the dweebs for whom a shiny splash screen and a tick in a goverment survey box is all that matters. All the software houses that you have all mentioned are guilty to a greater or lesser extent of selling to the teachers, as they are after all the "users" of the software, but very few "users" have any idea (nor do they care too much, and why should they) on the tedious technical issues involved with the running. In theory I have final say on what is used on our school network, yet we still have to use "SIMVenture" for BStudies  , the Birchfield Sunflower software for Science   , and the dreaded Heineman Languages suites    . All because at the end of the day that is what the teachers use to teach, and the schools saleable product is .... Exam Results ... and these crappy bits of software help them produce the results in a bigger better faster way. I hate kids!!
  18. Now that would be nice. I have never managed to find anything that complex. so I get my laddo to trawl the filestore and find the files. This summer I have reduced the 68Gb of student filestore to 39Gb by just removing Any non course related Music, Video and Pictures from all year groups.
  19. Has anyone any experience of the 3 bits ALL working together? We are just about to launch in to a new school year and the bosses have decided that our chosed VLE will be SIMS LG. This needs Sharepoint Portal Server 2003. Both of these are new to me and it goes without saying they cant afford a training course for me. So My question Does anyone know of any cheap (free if poss) course I can get hold of that will run me through the basics and admin of Sharepoint Portal.
  20. IGEL Winestra Thin Clients Using Ericom Power Term WebConnect Its a Citrix lookylikey
  21. Hmmm ... Quackers. Did you manage to get any sound out of the terminal session? We got the graphics working OK ... its our sound that doesn't work
  22. We dont want to shrink it ... we needed to shrink it The server that holds our Exchange mail service has a limited disk capacity .. and we are once again without funds to upgrade it. After the departure of the students I decided to be a  facist  and delete all the mailboxes from the then) 10Gb Mailstore. Once I had done that and replaced the mailboxes for the essential staff (me, Freewill and a couple of lesser beings ) the mailstore had filled the partitiion. Anyway All is now fixed ..... the Mailstore is now back with all our (mine and Freewill) all Lesser Beings (Teachers and support staff) and no students and is only 5Gb.
  23. FreeWill did ours last week and it seems to be ok
  24. So has anyone ever managed to do this? We have treid all sorts of things but the datbase remains at 15Gb Minimum! We have almost all of the users data out using Exmerge. Defregmented the database offline using eseutils. But the database steadfastly refuses to shrink..... Any clues would be helpful. TIA Marvin
  25. We looked at using JackPCs for our terminal rooms but couldnt afford Citrix. The main drawback we found was that they ONLY run windows CE so if you run a 2003 server and XP client network then they cant be added to an AD domain. This caused a dealbreaking issue. However ... If you are going to autologon they they are realy neat. We tried 5 of them and will now use those 5 to act as display noticeboard machines. Hope my gibberish helps
