I phoned the helpdesk (thanks for the number @speckytecky) , turns out we had a flawed version of the Test Player. Have re-downloaded and reinstalled. Fingers crossed, it seems to be working now.

So I've been trying to install this hell software for a week now:mad:. Have installed the server, the administrator console and the invigilator console and the individual clients, and all seemed ok. The problem is the demo test won't run at all, tried on 10 clients, and on each and every one of them as soon as the test is launched there is an unrecoverable error due to 'Test Violation Loss of Focus' . Re-launching the test causes the test player to crash. I then tried to re-run the demo test on a workstation with the absolute bare minimum of services running - no updates, no anti-virus, no firewall etc. administrator logon. Still the same 'Test Violation' errors. So, long story short I've not been able to get a single demo test to work. (There have been other random annoyances as well such as 'Learner number not recognised for this order' errors which are intermittent) Has anyone else been having problems with the software this year?

Still playing ... 200 hours plus invested since Xmas and haven't finished the main quest line yet. Eagerly awaiting the DLC later this month. [emoji3]

I have a fitbit one so putting that into sleep mode is different from the flex but I think the data is pretty accurate, in that if I wake up feeling like I had a bad night's sleep when I check on the app I can verify that by seeing just how many times I was awake or restless. It's made me realise just how much stress can affect my quality of sleep!

I love my fitbit. There's no way I could have maintained my weightloss without it. Been using it for about two years now. Haven't found it adding steps when I'm driving, but I only drive 14 miles a day so it could be different on a longer journey. It's been worth every penny!

Whilst my son was at nursery it wasn't too bad at least it was a full working day and operated throughout the school holidays. - But since he's been at school it has been harder and I've had to find a job with less hours and term-time only. My husband's job (full time, with overtime expected at a drop of a hat) is an hours' commute away by rail so all the parent 'evenings' (last appointment 6pm??), sports days, assemblies etc have to be attended only by me, if I can make it. I haven't been able to go to some assemblies as they fall within my working hours (8:15 to 1:15). Apparently (according to my disappointed son) he was the only one with a parent not there, so I'd love to know what flexible jobs everybody else has!! With INSET days, 13 weeks holidays, snow days, sick days and no grandparents nearby to call on it is a juggling act.

I was previously working in materials science. My first job out of university (studied Material Science and Engineering at Uni) was testing building materials, then I worked in a factory/foundry and was involved in research, testing and quality control of magnetic alloys. Alongside my work in the materials testing, I became more and more involved in developing/troubleshooting the company's IT systems. When I relocated to Scotland I retrained in IT on a course designed to help people change career. I then managed to get a job in IT at a Scottish university first working on the helpdesk, then as a senior IT officer, having completed my MCSE, A+ etc How many interviews did it take to get your first job in IT? 1 (for the helpdesk role) Have you ever felt that being female is a help or a hindrance to gaining a job in IT? Coming back to my previous full-time job (in a University, not a school) from maternity leave was hard- felt that I had to prove myself all over again and had to endure a certain amount of bullying from colleagues who had expected me not to come back and were ready to jump into my place. Have felt it a hindrance in that it is difficult to juggle a family and an IT job - have been for interviews before where it was obvious I wasn't going to even be considered for the job because they knew I could only work within the opening hours of my son's nursery and therefore wouldn't be able to work overtime. I am currently working part-time in a school because it is the best solution for keeping IT skills current (sort of!!) and having working hours that fit around childcare/school holidays. I wouldn't even consider anything full time at the moment as I know in IT there is an expectation for out of hours overtime that I just wouldn't be able to do whilst my son is still young. If you were considering IT (or other engineering / programming careers) whilst at school what support did you receive? I'm a bit long in the tooth to have been considering IT when I was at school, but I wanted to do an engineering degree and was encouraged in this by my teachers at sixth form college.

@witch, I have been intermittent fasting since the beginning of October (after watching the BBC programme you mentioned). Just for one day a week (Wednesday), because I do loads of exercise every other day I can only cope with doing it the one day a week. I have my large (550 cal) breakfast at 6.30 am and then don't have anything else until the next morning. I won't pretend it's easy, though the more I have done it the easier it has become. I feel it's beneficial - it's like a 'reset' button for the system. I am doing it to maintain my weight at the moment as I have reached my target weight a couple of years ago and I find maintaining is harder than losing the weight in the first place!

We have a couple of Kyocera FS-C5150DN on site. They are OK, but there is no way (that I've found) to get them to default to black and white printing for each user profile, which is what the IT department here prefer to save toner. With the HPs you could at least use their driver config tools to reset the defaults to the desired settings for all users.

The profiles were a mixture of roaming and local - the information for all accounts (both domain and local users) stored under the 'users' folder of Windows 7 was lost. All that remained were the %username% folders under users, but with no subfolders underneath those folders. Thanks for posting dsedu, not wanting to have anyone else experience the pain though, I thought it was just me... I've still not been able to track down what caused the problem. On one of the PCs I was able to restore the profile information from shadow copies but on the other PC even these had been lost. For all profiles.

Have had a strange problem with both my Windows 7 PC and one other Windows 7 PC with exactly the same problem. When I logged on this morning it created a new profile for me, however it has also deleted all the information from my old profile and every other profile on the PC! The folders for the profiles are still under the 'users' folder, however all the information in them has disappeared - all documents, settings, downloads, everything. It is a minor inconvenience for me as all my docs are duplicated on the network, however the same is not true of the other user Has anybody else experienced this? If so, is there a quick fix? I've googled the problem but can't find much information about it. These PCs have been switched off since 16th December and today (3rd Jan) is the first day they have been used since then so perhaps the PCs had a hissy fit with it being 2012?? Grasping at straws here. Other Windows 7 PC in the school don't seem to have the same problem (thank goodness).

OK, it's sorted now, I'll put the solution here in case anybody has the same problem or I forget what I did! Do not use the Epson scanner software from their website - this is the application causing the parental controls to trigger. The Epson scanner application needs to be uninstalled to allow the next part to work. Whilst logged on as local admin account just plug in the scanner to the USB port, allow the drivers to install. Use software update to acquire the lastest Epson drivers for your device. Use the 'Image Capture' application to launch the scanner. This application will work for all users without causing the parental controls problem. Seems so simple - why did it take so long to work out !! Oh well, I'll know for next time now....

I have installed an Epson scanner on one of our iMacs - it works fine for the local admin user. When used with a local restricted user account it automatically uses parental controls to block the application (even though parental controls weren't switched on for this Mac). This can be stopped by putting in the local admin password and then tweaking the parental controls app. However, the Mac is used via an OS X server using managed preferences and AD accounts. The scanner has been successfully added to managed preferences (as far as I can tell) and appears in the dock. Whenever any AD account logs on and tries to launch the scanner there is a message 'you don't have permission to use the application' (the same as the parental control message), however there is no option to override and there is no way to tweak network accounts through the parental controls system preference app on the Mac. I have looked on the OS X server workgroup manager and it can't be controlled from there either as far as I can see. I would be really grateful if anyone could give me any pointers how to get the scanner working for everybody!

We had a health and safety assessment done on our office when the servers were in with us and they ruled it was hazardous to health, so the servers are now in a separate purpose built room. I don't think being expected to work with those levels of constant background noise is acceptable - it was certainly causing us to have earaches and such like. It's one of those things you don't notice how bad it is, until they are gone, then you think, 'how did I put up with that for so long??!!'
