  1. Purely 'safe mode' PC works fine in normal mode.
  2. I can confirm the hard drives on all of these PC's are nowhere near full. Have tried a chkdsk too.
  3. Hi Am having problems accessing safe mode on all of our XP machines. These include 5 or 6 different machines with a number of different builds. You are able to boot via the F8 startup, the PC reaches the safe mode logon box as per normal. What then happens is roughly 5-10 seconds upon reaching this, the PC simply reboots. This is regardless of whether you attempt to log on or not. There is a very, very brief message displayed which I cannot fully capture, but I managed to pick out something along the lines of 'unable to create temporary profile'. Has anyone else suffered this and any fixes? Cheers
  4. Hi We are running a Citrix based VDI solution on 50 of our computers. We currently use Italc for classroom management. This has worked superbly on on physical PC's, but is slow, clunky and worst of all, when the teacher wants to 'take control' of a workstation, performance is eratic to say the least. We have the option of going for a paid for product such as Ranger Remote, as this apparently offers for support of VDI based PC's. But ideally, would stick with italc. Has anyone managed to 'fine tune' italc for this purpose? Thanks
  5. Hiya The disaster recovery is now completed. Decided to mount a new information store, and then restore the brick level backups. Considering there is only 20 mailboxes on this server, manual restoration of each mailbox was fine. Managed not to create duplicates too. Regarding the disks, I've never known a server with 4 Raid 5 HDD's and an online spare to simply 'blow out' like it did. There must have been some kind of major failure on the HDD controller which in turn damaged the disks. Whats important now is that the backup is set correctly to back both brick level and database level! Thanks for your input, is much appreciated.
  6. Good Evening We recently had a catastrophic hardware failure of an exchange server on a relatively small domain based network. Bascially we lost 3 scsi hard disks in quick succession meaning that a DR from backup was the only solution onto a spare server with identical hardware configuration. Configuration: Windows 2003 Server SP2 Microsoft Exchange server 2003 (latest sp) Arcserve 12 sp2 Backup server Managed to do the DR 'by the book'. And now have a restored server. However, we have noticed the information store service is not starting, and a quick examination reveals that the .edb files are missing. We have also noticed that the .edb files are missing from the previous backups. We know why as the .edb was moved to a different volume, but the change not made in the backup to ensure the information store on the new volume was backed up too! However, we DO have recent brick level backups of the individual users mailboxes. Obviously we cannot restore these, as there is no information store to restore to! Any suggestions of how we move forward with this? Just some ideas: a) Create a brand new info store and restore the brick level back to these? b) Restore a 6 month old version of the information store of which we should have on archived backup (before it was moved to another volume), and then restore users folders on an individual brick level basis of which would bring them up to date. Thanks for any advice with this.
  7. Chaps We currently use the following mix of Sanyo projectors: SE15, SE20, XU-41, XW200, XE40, XE31, XE32 Is there a single remote that will allow me to simply power them on and off? So far I have managed to find 2 remotes that will do all of them. Thanks for any help.
  8. Hi Its all in the name of standardisation! We have 4 other small sub domains to our main one, each of which uses plus.net as its ISP and to host its domain name. Our technicians and users are all very familiar with how plusnet works etc. Cheers
  9. Hi Quite a simple little task really. A part of our school has their own seperate network and ISP. They currently use Tiscali, and have a domain name registered with them, of which they use purely for email. We are moving them over to plusnet and want to transfer their domain too, so they can keep their current email addresses. Its probably a relatively basic task, but have never done this before! Can anyone briefly explain the process involved? Thanks for any help
  10. Hi folks Am getting the following intermittent message when firing up Italc: http://images.fotopic.net/11yeke.jpg Its fairly erratic. It either: a) Fires up perfectly, connects to all clients no problem. b) Opens up the console but doesnt connect to any of the clients c) Opens up the console with the above error message. Sometimes it will work fine having tried to open it 3 or 4 times. If it does crash, then you will always get an 'italc.exe' 'end task' when trying to log out or shut down. A using version 1.0.9-rc4 Thanks for any assistance in this matter.
  11. Another little twist is that there seems to be no sign of this database in SQL manager: http://images.fotopic.net/1yuc0w.jpg And yet its definately there! http://images.fotopic.net/1yuc00.jpg
  12. Hiya all One of our servers was getting very low on space on the 'C' drive. We scrutinsed it and managed to free up enough space to put us in a position of relative safety. However, there is a 6gb SQL database file named "Insight_v50_0_11428971_log.LDF" that we want to move to the 'E' drive. Decided to remove the HP insight manager, hoping that this would allow us to at least move this file to the alternative location, allowing us then to reinstall the insight manager to an alternative location. A reboot was performed, but this file is still 'locked'. Any ideas as to how we can move this file? Any other applications that may be locking it? Thanks for any help
  13. Hi folks Just a couple of questions relating to Italc: 1) Is there going to be a new release issued in the future? The latest verson is over a year old. 2) We run two seperate subnets. Staff and Student. I have managed to get this working reasonably well on one subnet for testing. However, when I want to host on a teacher PC, and monitor a student PC, I cannot add the student PC using computer name. However, I can add it via IP address, and it does work reasonably well. However, as DHCP is used, this is no good to us for long term use. Has anyone on here managed to get Italc working over two subnets? Thanks
