Hang on a minute....am I in a daze or what. Maybe that is exactly what you can do - the deployment 'server/database' needs to be on a single PC, but the deployment 'UI'.... can that not be on multiple devices?? I've never tried that. I'm not in a position to try it, but you could grab the UI setup files to see if it can be pointed towards the deployment server/database...

Just from observation, each client is registered with and pointing to a single Deployment Server. Therefore I wouldn't have thought it was possible to alternate that based on who needs control at a certain point in time. Interesting thought though. You could possibly migrate the DS from your SIMS server over to the Tech PC, then grant yourself remote access to it. If they just need to deploy updates, could something be achieved using the setup files from the deployment share?

In your Sysprep answer file, could you add a section to run either a script or a single command to apply your desired permissions? Alternatively, although I haven't tested this suggestion, would the setupcomplete.cmd batch re-run following a Sysprep, and if so could that be used to apply your permissions and delete itself afterwards...

It really depends on your requirements like storage space and budget constraints... Also, if you implement Over-provisioning on your SSD, you'll lose 10%, so keep in mind that for a 240GB SSD, I tend to accept that I really have 200GB to play with. I partition the disk, Windows 75GB and Data 125GB. Unless you expect to need more than 125GB in 3 years time then this tends to do just fine, but you do have to take the long view, as with any storage options. @Danp Which model are the OCZ drives? I've been installing Vector 180 drives for a while now and not had a problem with any; they're very quick and they come with a 5-year no-nonsense warranty. OCZ Product Warranty Information Some of the wording on that warranty page is a bit vague, it's not clear whether Dell/RM would have to initiate the RMA or the end-user... As stated by others, RM should be sorting this out since your consumer/purchasing transaction was with them.

Glad you managed to fix this one. Very satisfying. Are you in a position to feedback to the company that sold you the software, seems like they could do with your help to fix this.

Just some ideas... Is it ODBC related? Does the app create a Data Source, if so, is it creating a System or User data source... Is it attempting to alter any files in the all users profile? Or worse, the Windows folder...

Of course, I totally understand your apprehension about 'testing' equipment. I was actually recommending Synology, since I have two DS415+ boxes, RAID2, and I'm looking at setting up a High Availability Cluster - where the boxes are 'instantly' in sync (using a direct LAN connection as a heartbeat). Trust me, these boxes are fantastic. And whilst I'm sure you're right in thinking that my setup isn't the same as yours, but the options with these boxes are just amazing. They support virtualisation, AD/LDAP setup, AV scanning the contents of shared folders - you name it. You could always give Synology a call and see if you can wing a test unit?? Edit: Sorry, forgot to mention about FreeNAS. This OS is used in by some pretty high-end customers. I believe they have one of the best file systems available - ZFS (Snapshots, Data integrity protection, and de-duplication to name a few!) Worth a look, not just because of budget, but to see whether the features can achieve what you want...

Worked a treat, and lots of advanced options. You'd use the ZFS filesystem, in RAIDZ2 (similar to RAID6). Nice thing about the FreeNAS systems was it instructed me to tear out the RAID/SAS controller cards and plug directly into the SATA sockets, so you could potentially get away with a basic server, but with at least 16GB of ECC memory.

I think it has already been mentioned, but the Fast Boot + Secure Boot options may be causing the problem. Apparently, not tested yet, but to bypass Fast Boot just reboot, not shutdown - Fast Boot does its thing when you shutdown.

@MatthewL My first step in tackling this kind of problem is to start with the largest files. Using this app, APP, I list the top 100 largest files and skim through to see where there are duplicates. That can also lead me to see where there are duplicate folders, which can then be deleted as necessary. Then, I might use something like, CloneSpy, to track down the remaining duplicates - as you're probably aware, this is still a fairly tedious process

@ITGURU Reading your op, I can see similarities of my frustration a while back, which now seems to have gone away when I remember these few steps. 1. Make sure the Solus 3 copy of SIMS.ini and Connect.ini are the same across all computers - I had a few that wouldn't upgrade etc that were solved by copying the correct ini files to their respectful places. This should be the same one that the S3 Deployment UI is pointing to. 2. My SIMS.ini file points to the Solus (extracted) folder for the setups path. That way, even if I do manually update SIMS myself, usually because the agent is daydreaming, at least I'm using the same setup files everywhere - possibly remove/rename the old simshare\sims\setups folder. 3. Make sure the sims setup files are actually accessible on the network - so you can at least run them manually if you needed to. 4. Any freshly imaged PC I always script the install of the latest sims components first, then install the agent (along with the firewall script!!) afterwards. followed by a restart and slap on the back of the DS Apologies if you've already done, or know all this - it's late and I'm a bit tired.

Came across something very similar, and just as annoying. Solus 3 deployed the database update on a Friday, and when the clients fired up on Monday morning, Solus agent hadn't upgraded any of them by the time of the morning register! Kind of wish that Solus would be a bit smarter than that. I've advised the school to set Solus to manual deployment until I work out a plan of action. I might adopt the pulsar shortcut idea.
