Being really ditzy here - where do I upload the first file on CPanel?

Hello, Bit a novice to all this building-a-website-from-scratch lark, so I would really appreciate some help. I have downloaded the Joomla 1.0 script to my webspace via Fantastico and now want to download the Edugeek package. Could someone link me to or run me through how I install all of this please? So how long do these laptops and trolleys last? We are looking at this as a possible solution, but it would entail the pupils coming to collect the laptops from a central location (such is the nature of our building, which has lots of stairs). How long do you guys see one lasting, and how long do the laptops last when used by the pupils?
