  1. Wes, I'd be very interested in doing this also. I did succeeded in being able to read the moodle calendar in outlook last year but could only change details from moodle - no update in outlook was accepted (but I think that was probably on Moodle v1.9). Hopefully v2 can do this better. Appreciate if there is anyone out there who know how to do this. Ger
  2. Thank you very much for all you help. That solved the problem. Did backup and updated. The file upload is now available. Thanks You.
  3. Yes, you were spot on php had been updated to 5.3. I'll do a backup and update. Many thanks for all your help - it's appreciated.
  4. Excuse me didn't see this question earlier. At the moment Moodle is version 1.9.2+
  5. Thanks guys - was trying to remember how to turn on the messages. Using Firefox I'm getting. Fatal error: Call to undefined method MoodleQuickForm_hidden::MoodleQuickForm_hidden() in /home/ctiw111/public_html/moodle/lib/pear/HTML/QuickForm/element.php on line 363 Checked IE also getting exact same message "Fatal error: Call to undefined method MoodleQuickForm_hidden::MoodleQuickForm_hidden() in /home/ctiw111/public_html/moodle/lib/pear/HTML/QuickForm/element.php on line 363" I know this was working last Sat - as I uploaded some files. I've just been told by a techer here that this has been happening since approx Wed. Also had a phone call from hoster - he's been updating his server setting over the past few days also. But don't know it that's also having an effect. I'm going to do a full backup and backup database - with the idea of possibly updating to a more recent version of 1.9.? - hoster setting cannot install version 2.
  6. Moodle (1.9.2) starts properly, can login properly. I can open a course - turn editing on - then under "add a resource" - I select "link to a file or website". I'm given a blank white page only (in fact there's a problem with all the items on this pull down menu). This only happened a few days back - but can't seem to find any help on Moodle forums. It's happening in school and at home (so I think I can rule out internal work servers issues or webfiltering). Moodle is remotely stored on a linux server - it's more storage and we internally manage it - so I'm not expecting the provider to be of much use (but I have asked). Appreciate any advice that anyone can offer.
  7. Apologies had my mind on another product - that's why I removed the post in the first place.
  8. No not yet - all the teaching staff back here for past week - so not getting much time to myself - will give it a go again asap. Intend to go back and start process from start. Thanks for getting in touch again.
  9. Thanks for your help on this but I know when I'm stumped. I've gotten on to the webserver hosts to see if they can do it for me. I'd like to have sorted it myself but I there's a time to call a halt. Thanks again.
  10. Thanks very much for you help on this - now getting additional error messages. It's time to call in the "big guns" who understand this better than I do. Your time and direction was appreciated.
  11. Thank you very much for this. I'll have a go at this probably tomorrow - (today is a baby sitting day). If I can't get it sorted I'll have to consider the same route as you and set up a pc with wampserver. Thanks again.
  12. Thanks for taking the time to answer and try and help me out - it is very much appreciated. From the cpanel - I'm getting "CentOS 5.2 Linux Kernel 2.6.18-92.1.10.el5", "Apache version 2.2.9", "MySQL version 5.0.91-community", "PHP version 5.2.6" - to be honest most of this doesn't mean much.
  13. Apologies, just a typo. However, have made some progress. But I think solution is still in the same area - have Live login button on Login Screen but on pressing it it presents me with a blank screen. Logged in as administrator. On the left hand side, under Site Administration, selected Server> Debugging In the drop down list, choose "Developer" When I pressed the Live button this time I get "Fatal error: Call to undefined function mhash() in /home/..../public_html/test/auth/liveid/windowslivelogin.php on line 1535" This was one of the the items mentioned in my origianal posting "extension=php_mhash.dll" - anyone any advice on sorting this particular one out. Again this on a remote web server (using linux). Progress slow.... but still making progress all the same.
  14. Apoplgies - you are correct - it should be php.ini (was in too much of a hurry for my own good).
  15. Have a new test moodle site (v1.99) set up on a remote web server - safer that using main site. Went throught most of the instruction and got buttons on moodle page - but blank white screen presented. When I had a closer look at the instructions - I had missed a step "Environment Setup". This mentions that 6 different features of PHP need to be enabled. extension=php_mhash.dll extension=php_mcrypt.dll extension=php_openssl.dll extension=php_hash.dll extension=php_curl.dll extension=php_soap.dll And mentions the php.ini file - but on the web server install I don't have this file listed in the moodle folder. I've done a lot of seracing and don't really find a solution - one fix mention the .htaccess file (which I can find) but even if can put these lines into this file - how would I make them run? Any advice would be gratefully appreciated - this is driving me nearly mad at this stage. Ger
  16. Same situation here - hope I'm not being too cheeky in asking for a copy also? Please?
  17. I have moodle set up but am considering installing the Microsoft Live plugin because we use Outlook/Windows Live for the college email. But (hope this isn't a stupid question) - I would normally log in to moodle under "administrator" +password. However, my login for outlook/windows live is an a full email address "[email protected]". Do I need to worry about this at all or is it simply a case of being allowed within moodle to change the admin login into [email protected]? Appreciate any advice. Also wondering if it's possible to update my outlook calendar and for moodle to update automatically - have linked the two with iCal but getting read only when I view the internet calendar in outlook.
  18. Tom, your a gent - thanks will try these when I'm back in work on Monday. Gerry
  19. Sean Did you get a fix for this? Same problem here - students got very creative when face book was filtered out here - instead of http://www.facebook.com they added in an "s" https://www.facebook.com and away they went again. From reading in general about filtering - several people suggested using the ip address - but I can't find any programme or site that will give me the ip address for https ... facebook. I'd apprecite any help you or anyone could give offer advice. Gerry
  20. Second level students! Yeah, I was thinking that - currently experimenting with Moodle but need to figure out how to increase size of uploaded files (some database files students use can be quite large). Will also look at delegation of permission to other teachers. Thanks for the comments!
  21. I've been reading stuff from this site for several months and getting some great advice - going to try to contribute myself - my new years resolution. Suspect there are more teachers from Ireland using this site - suspect we all have the same issues. Ger
  22. Trying to pre-empt an exam problem for later in the year! Our students are required to supply a copy of databases/ss/word doc produced - students regularly forget their login details especially around exam time - so I've set up a generic login as a backup. However, under this generic login they can't save to their home folders - don't want the teacher to go around with USB pens - have had problems here (for another post!) - have had a few ideas but not sure if any make sense: 1. a form/script running on the school website to upload files to a server? 2. a form/script running on the school website to upload files to the web server? -- really not sure about storage available for this one thought! 3. a form which would email the file directly to the teacher email account? 4. save into a shared folder - concern here about two files of the same name overwriting each other - plus permission here might be too open to allow students copy other students work. From a google search I'm finding javascript and perl code examples - so basically I wondering if anyone could offer any advice or any alternatives?
