  1. Which module?
  2. Builders!! "Go to the store for a long weight" That's what you get, a long wait, while they ignore you Skirting ladder, some kept a ladder from a budgie cage handy. Multi-coloured paint.
  3. SIMSwise, surely if someone has been out of SIMS for 'years' their knowledge is old knowledge. SIMS has changed a great deal in the last couple of years. I am dealing with quite different problems now compared to even 2 years ago.
  4. All of ours have been on old servers, glorified PCs really. EDIT: Just read another reply from you. By 'migrate' I understand and meant migrate SQL from 2005 to 2008.
  5. Just popped back in to say, I wouldn't hold your breath.
  6. Said or implied. You can't have it both ways. My point as your bias will not allow you to understand is.............. all my examples are as bad as each other. i am for the record no fan of Microsoft or Capita but I use both to the best of my abilities and mostly just get on with it. I do feel more confident that if I complain to Capita or ask for a change I will get it if it is a reasonable request. I really am out now.
  7. Not in my opinion. Is that what I said? I don't think so. I think you are missing my point in a BIG way. But as this thread is rapidly developing into a biased thread aginst Capita (who I aknowledge is far from perfect). I out!
  8. Prize for the best rumour of the day. I heard the opposite and I don't believe I'm wrong.
  9. So you 'BELIEVE' Capita get paid extra for last minute demands from DoE? You heard this from where?
  10. Couldn't get past the Poll section of Edugeek..... worst site ever. (oops, forgot the I believe). While we are talking about Microsoft, when was the last time anyone got anything meaningful from Microsoft Technet in less than half a day?
  11. Hmmmmm I wish I had a patent on imagination stretchers. US government - more money US navy - more money Capita, different Aspects, extra fields in Pupil Details - same money and a rushed realease date to comply with DoE. Take your thumb off the scales.
  12. All true if you stretch your imagination with a very strong stretcher thing.
  13. Obviously I'm not talking about security. When have microsoft added a number of 'features' because they were asked by the customer? My proof..... Office 2007, Vista, ME. Who asked for them? They just thought they would try something different, they failed, if you ask me. Where is Capita's ME?
  14. I have been involved in these. Some of the requests leave the room puzzled. Some would be great, for one or two schools. Some are great. But at least there is a chance to put your ideas forward. If the DoE or whatever it is called this week would stop and let the software writers catch up maybe they could produce a good support site, almost totally stable software and so on. What other software company, apart from AV maybe has such a demand to meet with many deadlines dictated by third parties?
  15. Doesn't matter at all. We have done about 90 migration on 7.128. we will be doing some more in September which will be on Summer release. Thats Express but we are doing several Full SQL too.
  16. Or the other option, find a lot of rumour, false info and arguements about SIMS being rubbish or not?
  17. As I've said, I'm in touch and will continue to help as long as it is needed. We get many schools where a technician has gone off and done their own thing and stopped SIMS from working. This usually presents itself after an upgrade so SIMS gets the blame. It's the fiddlers that break it very rarely the upgrade. To them SIMS is just another program. It's never that when it is needed in a hurry though.
  18. I help people as much as I can, it's my job and my aim in life. When I do and satate that this particular error is not only well known and easy to fix, I don't expect to be shot down and told I'm wrong in so many ways. I have probably fixed more reason 0s than the posters put together. I am still waiting for the OP to reply from a list I asked him to try, but I had (in my opinion) to PM him as i saw this was the only way he could get through the knocking of SIMS and build a working system he could be happy with. Should I have to do that? I wouldn't think so. But I may be wrong, I am humanly often.
  19. I certainly agree with that. I have ignored a few posts that are very negative. SIMS has it's faults there are things needing change but there is a process for that. Some one complains that things are not working and they get a certain error, what help is "well they should change the error message" "they should re-write the program". The Error is known and lots of negative, jump on the bandwagon SIMS knocking posts are no help to someone who hopes that the email notification is someone who is able to help. Instead they get a loop message of 'SIMS is rubbish'. Lots of things are rubbish but saying so doesn't fix it, being proactive in Change requests and User groups does.

    Pci/Pci e Doh!

My thoughts are on the lines of playing video I have taken & using the TV as a large photo frame. I have a laptop and netbook for other things and a NAS. It is just that I have a decent PC that I wanted to make use of.

That's my hammer, solder kit and super glue going back into the tool chest then.
  22. That depends how good your LA is. If for instance the OP has been been to his LA support and the problem has not been fixed, they have a good reason to be on Supportnet. If on the other hand the LA support would be willing to pull all the stops out to get it fixed, there is no need to be on Supportnet. In my opinion.

It has got HDMI output. I was on the right track there.
  24. Not biting. My only concern is that the OP gets his sytem working

Maybe it's in then. Perhaps I had a bit of a brain overload and I have to rethink what I'm doing.
