Is it on your list of features to possible make HAP work for multiple sites? I have 20 schools that I would like to set this up for...... Thanks, Ben

We are beginning to purchase MAC's in our district. Most, for their own reason, want a dual boot system with SL/Win7. I wanted to ask those here that use MAC in an enterprise or school environment what you use to image? I see several programs that will backup and restore the mac image but none that claim to take a single disk image that will allow me to restore bot OS's in one operation. Am I missing something? Thanks! Ben in SC

Ah yes, I read that NETDOM is no longer required as of 0.29.

Chris, Can you give a little more information? Or are you saying there should be no problems with existing names?

Well, even though WDS is working it has it's shortcomings.. For instance it would be great to be able to schedule imaging of computer labs. My WDS system is pretty slick as I use a PXE menu similar to FOG already that is password protected and branded for our district. Maybe the designers of FOG will incorporate this hack into a future release.... Sure would make life easier.

Found an even better thread on their forums... https://sourceforge.net/projects/freeghost/forums/forum/730844/topic/3622667 Lots of work but what I need.... Maybe my working WDS system is better than I thought LOL.... Ben in SC

I think that the image replication will work out of the box, I read about a new process that handles that on the Fog server. I haven't deployed a second server yet to see if it will retain the TFTP/PXE boot processes but I don't think that it will from reading the user guides. I suppose that the configuration could be modified to point to a central database server instead of the local one and that could make this all work the way that I want...... Time to do some testing I guess. Thanks! Ben in SC

This thread: SourceForge.net: FOG - A Free Cloning Solution: Topic: Deploying Across a WAN Describes exactly what I want to do but he got no replies.................... Ben

I currently use WDS on a WAN with 22 remote locations (schools) and it works "fairly" well. I started looking into Fog to get the ability to schedule imaging of remote computer labs. I'm trying to envision a Fog system that would utilize central Fog server but would allow clients to receive their image from their local Fog storage server..... Does anyone know if this is even possible or would I need a for server (web gui) at each site and maintain them all separately? Thanks! Ben in SC

Yes, I've been looking to play around with this as well!!!

I have looked for a simple way to do just what you have outlined. I had hoped to use a linux distro as a replacement for our Netware servers as we began looking at a migration path. The complexity and lack of *nix experience on my staff led us to migrate to a full MS environment for our file servers. Ben

Does anyone know of a good product that makes it easy to manage a unix server as an active directory file server? To manage groups and permissions etc.... Thanks, Ben

We use Specops Deploy in our environment to deploy software to 6000 workstations. It's very powerful with the ability to target a computer with all kinds of targeting criteria. Can install MSI's and legacy apps such as exe's. HTH, Ben

Yes, were deploying XP and the syspreped machine is not already on the domain prior to capturing the image. Let me know if you find that patch you spoke of!! Thanks! Ben

Our District "Leaders" have asked us to come up with a way for them to email ALL parents of students in our district (12000 students). Do any of you have to offer this "service"? If so how? 3rd party site or application? We can see LOTS of problems sending this many emails, almost daily, from our own domain. Mainly getting identified as spammers... Thanks! Ben

What is s SO1-SO2, exactly? Also, I didn't place the proper currency in the original post. Corrected now....

It is interesting to read how the pay works in the UK as compared to the US. I am a NM for a medium sized "School District", as we call it here. Hope you don't mind me joining in on this conversation. I manage a network of 12k students, 2k staff, 22 school locations (Networks), 125+ servers with Novel and AD environments. We have a staff of 10 techs and 2 Engineers (I'm one of them). My pay works out converted to roughly £43K. How does that compare with your area? Ben

We have been deploying a new Windows (Only) environment over the past few weeks. We now have 4 2008 servers across 4 different sites that have the WDS role. The servers are all setup to respond to any client, deliver an image, join the computer to the domain and place the machine account in a specific OU. So far we have deployed windows to approx 1000 client computers. The problem that we faced is a large number of computers coming up with naming conflicts. We were using a simple naming scheme based on the location and a incremented 4 digit number. The conflict arose because so many computers were coming up at once. We have since resolved the majority of this by using MAC address as the initial computer name. 1. We are still experiencing problems when a WDS managed computer is logged into the first time, renamed, and then rebooted. Sometimes we get the error that the computer name already exists. We can usually overcome this by deleting the duplicate computer name but since we are reimaging so many computers ofter times our techs unjoin the domain, rename the computer and then rejoin. This has the unwanted side effect of removing the computer account from WDS management. 2. We also have several instances when a computer will get the name of a computer from another site all together that was previously imaged via WDS. This causes some trust relationship errors and we begin "chasing our tails". Any help with the issues described above would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks, Ben

We use the LightSpeed Systems TTC filter in our district. It allows us to install an agent on our laptops that communicates to our central content database for content filtering and user reporting. Internet Management Solutions for Schools ? Lightspeed Systems Ben in SC

A quick browse of Google reveals that many seem to be experiencing slowness when using the print server in 2008. Have any of you here seen this behavior? If so have you found a resolution? Thanks! Ben

We're beginning to roll this out to 2000 clients now. Thanks! Ben

Do you know where a non scriptlogic customer could download a copy od autoshare?

Ron, What i do is create a folder under the RemoteInstall share (Images\{groupname]\{imagename}\$OEM$\$1\sysprep and place a sysprep.inf file there. WDS reads this file when deploying the image and automates the whole process. Hope that helps! Ben in SC

Sorry to hijack this thread!!! Our PowerSchool implementation is state mandated so they are footing the bill for the software but not hardware. We got the PS SIF agent as part of the package so I just need to get tied into the ZIS for my account creation. For right now I've written a trigger on the Oracle STUDENTS table to call a little sockets client that then sends the record id to a server for record processing. I would obviously love to have this incorporated into the ZIS instead of going around it. The AD agent from EduStructures is ridiculously expensive! I appreciate any help that you can provide. Ben
