Ok so post away, what are you doing right now? I'm on laptop (obviously) and watching a great film on ITV4 called Carlito's Way.

From my limited experience of running websites/hobby sites I would have to say cpanel and linux. This is due to the ammount of resources and security of linux over windows. Although due to me not been "in the know" and using these servers from root and on a full time basis, that this may not be the case judging on my reading/research of the windows server 2008 which seems to have adopted a few things in regards to linux. commands line etc..... Now onto cpanel, I've tried demo of plesk, and find it as a user (from a novice) point of view over-complex to learn. With cpanel it's a lot less cluttered and organised, and more secure although it has it's flaws this is only a comparison between these two. With the ammount of demo's out there (provided by them, 3rd parties and youtube) learning the basics is a breeze. Anyway better stop typing or I won't stop, that's my input for all it's worth.

Thanks, I'm not a complete novice, just a learner (used to acronyms in all shapes and forms lol), even thinking about a career change and going into the IT sector. I always fix my friends PC's be it hardware related (to a certain degree) or software/OS side. Example, other day friend of mine says "PC don't work" work, a common response from people totally clueless (bless em) so I took a quick look. Took me 30 mins after tests to diagnose (imo) what was wrong with it, a hard drive! clicking, whirring/nasty noise. Corrupted C drive error. and S.M.A.R.T test in bios....... after 40 minutes the indian support guy told me that was indeed the case and it would be picked up next day. I'm thinking I told you that from the start you fool *rant over* lol Hope to learn a few things here from the pro's. So that's a more in-depth introduction of myself

Hey all, was just wondering what the easiest and most secure of turning a old PC i got doing nothing into a home server on a home network that is not exposed to the internet so I could learn CentOs at my own pace via the linuxtopia ( think it's that?) website. Thanks in advance, and please keep it as simple as possible, so I don't have to ask further for clarification hehehe......
