Im currently building a new machine to make images of for our new ranger network. Looking at the .netframework that im sure i ll need to put on. Do i need to install .net 1.1 .net 2.o .net3.9 .net3.5 and .net 4 individually and in that order or will installing .net 4 cover do everything? TIA

Since IE9 is not available on XP which is what were stuck on at the moment what web browser Would you reccomend?

Hi, I have just taken over at a schoolwhere they have numbershark and wordshark on their computers. Got a call logged today saying these titles have now stopped working and are asking for a reg.code? By all accounts this has happened before, but there was no notes left for how to resolve this. Im not in the schools untill next week, this is on a CC3 network if that makes any difference? Any clues?

Just a quick update - Do I need "dumb" APs and a hugely capable switch or can I get away with more WAPs on the existing system to maintain bandwidth. Would it matter if the laptops were then moved to a different part of the school for the afternoon or would they only pick up the original WAPs in the other end of the building? - Sorry - I'm a noob at networking!

Why would you need a Trapeze network for a school? If were talking about a small primary school that has about 60-90 laptops but the classrooms/workspaces are spread out? would this be the recomended option or would an alternative solution be better? Thanks

We are currently using netmedia's myBreifing as a one way comunications tool for schools and other areas of the organasation MyPortal - Netmedia Home Page - MyBriefing But this is now looking to expensive to keep. Is there any other softwear that you use that you can up load files to with a description, add tags and catogories. Then let the user subscribe to certain tags or areas who are then emailed when a new bit of information is added relivant to them? Also myBreifing allows things to be confidential to groups so things marked as confidential to head teachers are only viewable from people in the head teachers section. TIA

Using Suse and tar to disk. On the server i have a folder that contains the last 10 days data in /backups/year/month/ then it has the zip files for each day in there. If i write these to tape, on the tape it creates /backups/year/month/ list of files. After i put the tape in the follow week with out rewinding what will happen as will it create a new /backups/year/month list of files? so there will be 2 /backups/year/month on there with reoccuring dates so how would i go about restoring the correct files. Or would it be better just to keep 5 days data on the server so that theres no duplication of data on the same tape. or should i rewind the tape at the start of each back up? TIA

Trying to get set up some e portfolio arangement on moodle. either using MrCute to just allow the upload once of all material then they can be added into each students portfolio which causes problem A see below Im having a bit of trouble getting MrCUTE to work on our linux box. In the search repository block setup I have this MrCUTE setup Full local path to repository e.g. '/var/www/moodledata/1/ims_repository' /home/moodledata/1/ims_repository URL path to ims repository e.g. '/file.php/1/ims_repository': files/index.php?id=1/ims_repository When I went to notifications it says everything was successful 1st problem I go to add a resource droop down menu and I see under Add an IMS content package [[resourcetypemycuteget]] and [[resourcetypemrcuteput]] 2nd if I go to [[resourcetypemrcuteget]] I get the page as described in the manual. I click on find resources and theres nothing in any of the areas even using the test one from the mrCUTe site so I go to deploy all And get this DEPLOYING /home/moodledata/1/ims_repository//Vocational DEPLOYING /home/moodledata/1/ims_repository//Miscellaneous Its adding an extra / to the end there 3rd when I go to the [[resourcetypemrcuteput]] option I again see a screen that looks like its working go to upload a file or create a package which spawns a new window I then click add a file which allows me to search for a file after I browsed and click add nothing happens it just stays on that page? Any ideas? I need a set up of 2 or possibly 3 servers, a web server, a database server and maybe an application server. The web server will use information from the database server to create the pages. The internet users can access the website and use it to find things from the database. However the only way the database should be changed is from someone logged on the intranet. My understanding of the DMZ is a bit scetchy, i understand that this is where we put things that are needed to be accessed both internally and externally. So the webserver would be placed in there. But what about the database server, would the best solution to be to have it on the intranet side and open a port on the router/firewall to let the webserver communicate with it? TIA

Getting our server set up for outside access to moodle, our VLE. Should it be set up for HTTP or HTTPS? no money transactions will take place on there, but there will be lots of student data on there. If it is set up as HTTPS what else will i need to do? get a security certificate? hows this work and how much does it cost. Cheers
