hey ppl, I'm trying to create a query to get a list of users inactive for 60 days or users who have not logged on to the network for 60 days. I tried to run dsquery but got an "dsquery failed: the parameter is incorrect. Windows could not run this query because you are connected to a domain that does not support this query". Any help on this is appreciated

hey ppl, I have a Windows 2003 server with a C: and D: partition. THe D: partition has several shared folders I want my users to access. When I go to the users workstation and do a "\\" at the Run window I only see the shares on the C: partition. If I do a "\\" I get a prompt for a username and password. If I type my username/password I am able to access that share but I am not able to access that shared folder if I type the user's credentials even though that user has full NTFS control over that share..?? any help on this is appreciated

hey ppl, I have an issue at one of my schools. I have the domain controller located at the HS and GC at all the other schools for quicker authentication. We has a GC turned off at one of the elementary schools over the summer. It was still down when school started and now when I bring it back up users can't logon..?? and when they run outlook to check their mail they get a prompt for their username and password to connect to the exchange server which they never got. If I shutdown the GC server at that location the users can logon and access their email with no problem. What do you think went bad on the GC server? any help on this is appreciated.

hey ppl, I have an issue with one of my remote GC server at one of my schools(middle school). we installed 15 new workstations in the library at that location and renamed and joined them to the domain. the server at that location see's the computers in Active Directory Users and Computers when I do a find but the "master" at the high school does not see them..?? When I go to Active Directory Sites and Services I do not see the remote GC server under the high school server under "NTDS Settings"..?? there obviously is a replication issue. Is it possible to manually enter the remote GC server to the high school NTDS setting? if anyone has had this issue and found a solution please let me know. any help is appreciated

hey ppl, I have this one lab at the high school that is not pulling down the proxy settings. I have a GPO applied to this lab and have the "Enable Proxy Settings" enabled on the DC end. I ran a RSoP on the workstation end and it shows it's "disabled"..??? I've restarted the workstation several times and also ran "gpupdate /force" a few times on the workstation. Is it just that the workstation and the DC are not syncing and need more time? I'm at a loss right now. any help is appreciated. I'm adding some screen shots hoping it may help.

thanks for the reply. how does the client receive the .dat file? how does it get pushed down? do they need to download it to their workstation? I'm not understanding that part. thanks

hey ppl, I followed the instructions from this link that was posted here a while ago..FindProxyForURL.com - PAC & WPAD Resource but I'm alittle confused. Do I need to configure a gpo to push the wpad.dat file down to the users? when I type "http://wpad/wpad.dat" in the IE address bar I get a prompt to download the wpad.dat file??? shouldn't this be done automatically? and what directory does the wdat.dat file get downloaded to? what else am I missing? any help is appreciated servers = win2k3 workstations = winxp sp3

thanks for your replies. I'm using kmount's suggestion and testing out the lab now. All is working good for now. I did notice that when I try to 'Save As..' in MS Word 2003 the drop down shows the parent folder in which the original folder is located. Make sense? In Photoshop 6 the 'Save As..' drop down only shows the mapped 'S:' drive. Which is what I want. In Word the user can select a folder up one or two levels and see folders I'd rather they don't see. Any suggestions? Other than that it works.

hi ppl, I have a lab with 25 computers running winxp. this lab has multiple logins for each period. i.e.; hs411pd1, hs411pd2, hs411pd3 etc. Each login account has a folder on the server labled the same as the login i.e.; hs411pd1, hs411pd2...you get the picture..lol I need a script that 'redirects' that user to just that folder once they login. I guess what I'm asking is can I have a certain user login and just be able to view a certain folder off the server? any help is appreciated -t

hey ppl, we did a scan on a few systems using Spyware Dr. on a few of our users and they are getting infected with 'Application.TrackingCookies' and 'Adware.Advertising'. These users were getting 'Undeliverable' emails and were send hundreds of emails to different accounts causing our mail server/domain to be blacklisted with Yahoo.com, Verizon.net & Aol.com. We've since then disabled those accounts and reinstated our whitelist status. Just wanted to know what everyone out there uses to prevent these infections...software/hardware/scripts? thanks -j

yes, but can it be installed on a windows box?

thanks for the replies fellas . does Nagios have an x86 installer or can a linux box be setup to monitor my Win2k3 servers?
-
just a quick question. are all of you monitoring every workstation in your schools or just the labs? Is there a server/client install or do you view all the workstations from your XP box? we have 8 schools with fiber between all the schools which I'm thinking should be able to handle this type of load on the network. I guess what I'm getting at is what type of performance hit will I see on my network if I was to view 'all' workstations? thanks
-
hey all, just wondering what some of you use to monitor your servers. I have several Win2k3 servers with the Dell Open Manage software and it's ok but I'd like to try others out there. Preferably free/open source. Any advise is appreciated.

figured it out. it was the lmhosts file thanks for your reply;)

hi all, I have a vendor who can nslookup his external site ip address but cannot nslookup when using site name. i.e.; c:\>nslookup url.net his software is hardcoded with the url.net so changing it to it's ip is not an option. I setup a 'Routing' rule on our proxy(ISA 2000 SP2) but have done nothing on my dns server. should I add a record in my dns pointing to his url.net?

thanks all, the scripts I have and the scripts that were posted here all work if I run them locally. My problem is the workstations are not pulling down scripts. I've checked permissions on the printers, I've tried different types of scripts .vbs, .bat, which all work if run locally btw. I have 'Loopback processing mode' enabled. I've tried adding the scripts in the 'Startup' and 'Logon'. I've tried what 'Gerry' suggested. what I've done for now since I have folder redirect is I created a 'printer' folder in the labs Start/Programs and added the printer's shortcut in that folder. Once the user logs on they double click the printer and it installs it into the 'Printers and Faxes'. I would still like to know why a simple task like mapping printers seems so complicated:mad:
-
Gerry, do I set the bold line above in the 'Computer' config or 'User' config? also, how long does it take the workstation to pull the script off it's DC?
-
script still not working:doh: Loopback is enabled and set to 'Merge' and I tried putting the script in both "Logon" and "Startup" part of the OU. Printer permissions are set to Everyone/Full and I even threw the user group in. I also added that user group into the local Administrator group of each workstation but still nothing. What am I missing? should I do away with the .vbs and try .bat?
-
thanks for all the replies. the mapping still does not work:mad: I've done a 'gpresult' on the workstation and it shows it's pulling from the correct GPO. I've done a gpupdate and reboot the workstation but the printers are not showing up in 'Printers and Faxes'. I've tried puting the .vbs in the 'Logon' and the 'Startup' with no success. But again if I run the same script locally the printers show up:confused: Anyway, if anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate it.

hey ppl, I want to map two printers to one of our labs using .vbs and GPO. the print server is located at same location. I want to apply it to the 'computer' so who ever logs on has access to those printers. Here is an example of the .vbs I'm using... ****************************************** Option Explicit Dim objNetwork, strUNCPrinter1, strUNCPrinter2 strUNCPrinter1 = "\\zara\HPLaserJ" strUNCPrinter2 = "\\zara\Epson" Set objNetwork = CreateObject("WScript.Network") objNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection strUNCPrinter1 objNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection strUNCPrinter2 objNetwork.SetDefaultPrinter strUNCPrinter1 WScript.Quit ****************************************** when I run this script locally it works fine. When I add it to the OU policy's 'Startup' it does not work:confused: Also, should I be using a .bat instead? any help is appreciated. -j
