You need a IEC C15 cable (IEC 60320 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). Most suppliers should be able to get you them - same price as a standard C13 (kettle) lead Edit: Sorry should have said C15 -> C14 is what you're after? Looking at doing the same here (SCCM 2012 on Server 2012 w/SQL 2012). Aiming to try and get the new SCCM 2012 system setup within the next week to carry out some imaging in half term. Who knows if I'll actually be able to do that though!

Not that different to contracts most people sign with commercial companies. In matter of fact I had to sign a waiver for any copyright/patent that I develop while employed by my current school. The contracts worded so that it does financially benefit both parties (we both get a cut of any profits, and they have to stump up any legal fees required to patent/copyright any works etc) but certainly one reason why I'm not rushing out to develop any ideas I may or may not have during this employment

I'd also look at if you really need to run 4 vCPU for the VM. As @kmount says you may find that your issue is CPU contention. If the VM is unable to schedule all 4 vCPU to physical CPU cores simultaneously it will have to wait until the hypervisor can get 4 physical cores. This can cause very bursty performance issues when it looks like your VMs should be running just fine. To be perfectly honest most VMs run fine with 1 vCPU, or 2 at a push. Very very rarely do you ever need more. Much better to start small with VMs and get bigger if you are being resource constrained then to do the opposite

As has been mentioned we do have sprinklers in our server room. Unfortunately we ran out of money to put anything else in (the dfe refused to change the build spec!) and the insurers insist that if it's present the system has to be connected. What has been done is the sprinkler system is a dry pipe system, so no water is in the server room. The sprinklers aren't triggered by the fire alarm, but are triggered by heat causing the sprinkler heads to release. The power and UPS system (all rack PDUs are powered by a centralised 30kva UPS system with bypass) are connected to the sprinklers (via water sensors in the pipe work) and the fire alarm system. When the sprinklers or fire alarm system are triggered the ups goes into bypass. When water is detected the batteries in the UPS are isolated and power is killed to the room. The ups system is also in an IP65 rated case to protect the batteries from the sprinklers!

We're with M247. Gig on gig bearer with EFM backup connection. They provide and manage the router, we do everything else (filtering + firewall), but everything just works for us . I know they do offer fully managed options so I'd say give them a call.

We're also using Cisco Call Manager, and while I don't doubt its extremely powerful it is as you say very very expensive. Everything is an extra license, and considering we now have all the phones it's very tempting to start to move over to Lync.

Personally big one for us is what devices we're going for next year with our 1-1 laptop setup. Now everyones pretty much ditched netbooks as a format we're looking at something to move to that isn't going to cost the earth. So visits planned to lots of companies selling laptops.

Essentially what this is for is a seperate reporting system that we've developed in house based on SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services). We currently have 9 modules a year in all subjects, so providing we get the module levels/grade results, EoY targets (and various other bits of baseline data, class code etc) into the SSRS system from SIMS we're able to report on various progress/attainment metrics on a per class/tutor group/subject/year/academic year combination. One of the reasons for doing this outside of SIMS is that we've got much greater flexibility. We RAG rate all of our students progress differentially on a per module/subject level against minimum EoY targets so that everyone isn't just red at module 1 . It also lets us very quickly get out how specific groups are performing. While I know discover can do some of what we're looking at, it can't report the data in the same way our internal system does or be as flexible. We also have several areas of extension we're looking at such as using it to produce our end of module reports for parents (it is reporting services after all!). Since we only add data at the end of a module (when the end of module test or similar has been carried out) exporting overnight isn't an issue. Looks like I'm going to have to play with turning our marksheets into reports as well . I know that you can have a report export to tab delimited, so hopefully once I figure out how to get the correct aspects/grade sets etc into the report it should be fine. May have to call on your expertise at some point vik

If you want a device for just reading get a Kindle (touch, paperwhite, keyboard). If you want to be able to watch movies/browse the web and read books look at the Kindle Fire . To give you an idea myself, my parents and my GF all bought Kindles when the Kindle 3 was released 2.5 years ago. We all use them extensively and GF upgraded this Christmas from the Kindle Keyboard w/3G to the Kindle Paperwhite w/3G. We also all have iPads, but prefer using the Kindle to read on. Having a Kindle has helped me read a greater variety of books, in a greater variety of places. I always have my Kindle in my bag

When advertised previously (although as IT Director rather than IT Manager) the salary was 60-70k+. I was based at SPGS for several months and I can vouch for the lunches being very nice

Not sure how much it's saved us since we've had papercut mf implemented across the school from day one. Our solution cost a bit to setup (biometric release on all copiers, with papercut installed on all copiers), but defaulting all jobs to mono, forcing people to have to acknowledge colour prints, telling people how much their print outs are going to cost, using follow me printing so all prints have to be manually released, recharging all department printing and implementing student print quotas has all meant that we've kept printing to a level we're happy with.

Everyone in a room and a phone on speakerphone is how we do it here . Technically our super fancy expensive cisco phone system can do it (just like it can do everything aparently) but I suspect we'll have to pay £££ to enable it or £££ to get a consultant to actually set it up or spend weeks digging through the config to make it work. KISS is the answer Alternatively Free Conference Call UK – Powwownow works well for having lots of different people dial into a conference call. Know a few companies that have used it with me, and looks very reasonable price wise!

Ours are all auto-ordered by our printers/copiers and its free delivery. Never heard of a copier company charging delivery for toner!

Our 6th form are just an extension of the normal school - all classrooms and IT rooms etc are shared. Our 6th form is run a little differently to most however, they don't get traditional free periods and aren't allowed to leave site. Outside of lessons they're timetabled for quiet study periods within our 6th form study centre (our only dedicated 6th form room) which is a room with around 60-70 PCs plus additional desk space for those not using a computer. This is supervised at all times by members of teaching staff. The head of 6th form, our full time careers advisor and the 6th form student achievement manager (essentially a non-teaching head of year) also all have their offices coming off of this space. We do run a 1-1 laptop scheme but this is across the entire school not just 6th form. We do let students connect their own devices to the site-wide wireless network however.
