Hi all, We have an external company providing musical instrument tuition to our school. Being a musician myself, I have been chatting with the staff and owners. One of the owners raised an interesting question: Are there any off-the-shelf solutions where they could host a course of music theory videos under a subscription model, with a short quiz after each video to check a students' understanding before unlocking the next video? This would be done under their own banner on their own website, not the school's. They're particularly set on being able to quiz students on the contents of the video they just watched, and to have the next video unavailable until doing well in said quiz - I realise this may narrow our options. I remember once taking IT certification training courses on CBT Nuggets, and I think this did everything I've described apart from the "quiz-to-unlock" mechanism, instead having a quiz between freely accessible videos. Does anyone know of any solutions to this? Or are we looking at cu$tom design?

Thanks There's only so much we can do if a teacher doesn't check the "to" field at all, but I like the idea of changing display pictures to the school logo for all students, at present we've left things as default.

Hi all, Across the board, our users are on a LastnameFirstinitial type username format, and automatically created from SIMS - eg SmithJ for John Smith. Lets say John Smith is Mr John Smith, a teacher with the email [email protected] If a Jenny Smith joins the school as a student her account becomes SmithJ1 and her email becomes [email protected] Autocomplete will still complete the "to" field to to either Jenny Smith or Mr John Smith by name, but this isn't quite obvious enough for letting a rushed teacher know that they're about to send sensitive information to a student. Apart from changing all staff emails to something like [email protected] and causing a huge job, do we have any options within browser-based Outlook for being better able to differentiate teachers and students, or to prompt the user to check email addresses before sending? Hi all, Since moving to Office 2016, a handful of our teachers have been getting lots of XSL Stylesheet files with coded names appearing in whichever folder their Word document is in. They seem to be deletable without consequence but reappear soon after opening the Word document. I've done a bit of investigation and it seems like these are temporary files that for some reason aren't able to be created in their usual location (presumably on the C drive), and are instead defaulting to the folder containing the Word document the teacher is using. From what I've seen, all affected people are able to see and access the C drive of their school-allocated laptops (something that we used to make invisible), so I'm not sure why Office isn't writing to it. Of course I might be wrong with this theory, but any other ideas would be very welcome!

Hi all, Just having a bit of a brainstorm with a colleague now we've just been informed that Texthelp's Read&Write software can't really be used in exam conditions, as on Chromebooks it's a browser extension rather than an installable executable. We're now looking for an alternative to Read&Write that can be used when we need to disable internet access - our SEN dept will be quite keen to use the same software on Windows as well because the user experience for the students needs to be the same between Windows and Chrome OS. Is anyone successfully using reader software that doesn't need internet connectivity? Thanks for any info!

Yes, I've tried removing and re-adding the client and also removing/adding it from all the places it shows up in Solus with no luck You're right, I definitely have more success with adding devices from the Network radio button than I do from typing the name, but in this case it doesn't seem to help.

I'm guessing there's somewhere I can go for a more verbose version of this error? I realise this screenshot is not especially helpful...

Thanks for your help. Have just set those up but still giving the same error unfortunately! While I find out if we have any other things blocking such connections, do you know of any more possible causes?

Pinging both ways seems to be okay, and I can access the VM's c$ from the SOLUS host.

Thanks for the super speedy reply! It's on Win10 - we did just now make the SIMS drive visible for it but unfortunately it's still throwing a COM error when attempting a reinstall.

Full disclosure - I'm a fairly junior IT tech so may be making some incorrect assumptions here and most likely not giving you all the details you need! SIMS currently deploys fine on our machines, however we're trying to push it out to a virtual machine. We're getting a COM error almost immediately in the Message field on the Agents tab. Can anyone enlighten me as to the cause and possible solution to this please? Many thanks for any advice!

Thanks Jay - Will keep these in mind if we expand our budget! Got quite a few to order so might be hard to convince Finance to go for stuff over £20... might be forced to if anything cheaper isn't performing properly!

Hi all, Like many schools we're going the route of putting webcams with mics in classrooms so teachers at home can see/hear their classes. We have many rooms but not much budget - it seems we're limited to the roughly £15 cheap stuff on Amazon. We've tried a couple of models but the mics aren't being detected (mis-advertised plug and play...) - has anybody here had any luck in this price range who might be able to point me to a model? Not expecting miraculous picture or mic quality, mainly we just need them to plug and play. Many thanks for any advice!
