ICT Direct:

ict-direct.PNG.f58c1e68f845b5811d002217cc6498af.PNG

Way back in 2007, ICT Direct was established with the simple goal of making computers readily accessible to each child in school. With each passing year, we take a step closer to this by providing Schools, Colleges and the wider UK Public Sector with top-quality refurbished business-class computer hardware at a fraction of the cost of comparable new equipment.

In 2014, ICT Direct formally merged with parent company, 1st Technologies Ltd. Taking advantage of our stronger buying power and economies of scale delivered by a combined workforce, we pressed ahead offering a greater range of products at market-defining prices.

To date, we have supplied thousands of schools with over one hundred thousand quality refurbished computers. 2020 was our most challenging year so far, and we switched focus to supporting remote learning. ICT Direct sourced thousands of quality laptops, portable devices and hundreds of affordable webcams. Once again ensuring as many children as possible have access, not only to a computer but to a consistent education whilst their schools were closed.

Technology firm Nynet has been the driving force behind North Yorkshire’s digital connectivity since 2007. Its latest collaboration with North Yorkshire Council has led to the creation of Britain’s largest rural Smart County with the deployment of a LoRaWAN network covering over 85% of the geographical area of North Yorkshire through more than 100 LoRaWAN gateways. This network is now being used by schools in the region to monitor Indoor Air Quality using IoT.

Nynet’s full fibre network, which is owned and managed by the company, provides gigabit capable, robust digital infrastructure and highly flexible broadband services to most of the region’s schools, hospitals, GPs, blue light services and local authority buildings. It is now being made available to businesses in the region as part of a major expansion programme. In 2022 Nynet completed a project to bring free public wi-fi to 20 Yorkshire market towns, improving connectivity and access to digital services in local communities.

North Yorkshire is ranked third in the UK for high-speed school broadband following work by Nynet to expand its gigabit fibre network to education settings. A partnership between Nynet and cyber security expert BoxPhish provides education in online safety and security for staff and students at high schools across the region. Nynet also provides high performance cloud telephony to the education sector.
