Chrome bookmarks location - can it be moved

We have been using IE for years and now looking to move some users over to Chrome for banking purposes.

 

One user would like to continue to use their favorites but i would like to see if it's possible to change the location of the bookmarks to the user's favorites folders in their userareas. If we were to push this out to everyone, we would have issues as i've read that the bookmarks are saved to the appdata folder rather than favorites. We don't save the app data folder as we have mandatory profiles for users.

 

Would this be something that's done in registry.

why not have this person create another google account and then sign into chrome, then all that stuff will be synced to that account?

I've managed to sort it , there is a Group Policy that allows us to get the user data path. Setting this to a network location means the user's data can follow them.

 

We don't / haven't setup google accounts yet as it's something that's not very high on the list of things to do. Maybe once it's setup, then i will have a look at pushing the bookmarks to their online profiles.

I'd be wary of doing this, especially for users that move around.

We used to, but it started causing lots of problems. Unless you've got a way of managing chrome updates (if you have I would love know what it is), then there's a good chance that different PCs could have different versions of chrome (normally only in the short term). This will lead to at least a bunch of "Your profile isn't for this version" type error messages, or at worst, corruption of the user data, which can stop chrome from running until you clear down the userdata folder (at which point, your users lose their bookmarks).

We keep all the chrome profiles in c:\programdata\ and still occasionally have to clear out the userdata folders after an update.
