Setting up a new server alongside existing one

I've ran into a problem setting up a new server which I hoped to keep completely separate - different domain name etc - until ready to connect client desktops to it.

 

I'm running a network currently (on same switches) using the IP range: 10.147.120.xxx -> 10.147.124.xxx. The gateway is connected on the 10.147.120.xxx range.

 

I initially set up a new network using static IPs within the above range, which I knew were not being used / going to be used soon. This was fine until I started to set up DNS, when I realised I needed a separate range.

 

So my plan was to use 10.147.130.xxx -> 10.147.134.xxx but this is giving me errors now because the gateway / router is currently on 10.147.120.xxx range.

 

Question is - how can I successfully set up the network completely separate, alongside but causing no disruption to the existing one? For an internet connection (for purposes of updates etc) they all have to be connected via same router.

Not sure why you need a different range for DNS... I've multiple.times setup new forest/domain on same IP subnet using unused static IPs...each server points to different DNS IPs and never had any issues doing this.

Create a new vlan interface. That becomes your gateway
