First 2008 R2 DC in 2003 R2 Domain

Hi

 

Ive been reading a few posts on here about this but still not 100% on how to go about it. Am i right in saying that before i do anything, i have to upgrade the schema on the 2003 R2 DC that has all the roles on by running adprep which is found on the 2008r2 disk?

 

I also saw that some people has said they can't find this file on the disk, not sure if other have the same problem. Are there 2 versions of the adprep.exe? one for 32bit and one for 64bit? I take it i would have to run the 32bit version?

 

If anyone has a step by step guide, it would help me out massively!

I did this earlier this week.

 

Put your Server 2008 dvd into your server 2003 machine, navigate to \sources\adprep\ and run adprep (32 bit version) from there

 

1st adprep /forestprep

2nd adprep /domainprep

 

Then DCpromo your 2008 server, all should be good

Did you have to reboot the 2003R2 DC once you ran the commands? Also as we run exchange 2007, there arenlt any problems that you are aware of with this in doing updating the schema?
