Network Supply/Install/Support for a Primary School?

Recommended Posts

I'm currently looking for recommendations for companies offering supply, installation and support for a full network refresh in a Hertfordshire primary school.

Viglen and RM are dominant in Herts but the school would like to consider other vanilla options from other suppliers.

Enquiries with various firms so far suggest most will do parts of a primary school network but none really offering a full package of installation and ongoing support for the school.

Can anyone recommend any alternative suppliers in the Hertfordshire area who are able to offer a full supply/installation/support service to primary schools and who really understand how primary school ICT 'works' and needs to be installed and supported?

Thanks in advance for any advice and suggestions.

SITSS are currently preparing a detailed quote for our new network. Our Head asked me to begin discussions with SITSS. From these initial talks the broad look of our new network was decided. Top of the list was that it should be a vanilla network.

Other considerations:

New domain [server 2012 based], virtualised servers, migrate existing users and data, move staff E-Mail from Exchange to Office365, new backup solution,...

The project looks good at the moment and I can't wait to get my hands on the new network :D [if the project goes ahead :(]

Edit: We are a secondary school.

Hi DaveP

Thanks for your reply. I am sure SITSS will do a good job for you. I believe they have their own in-house vanilla Windows solution which I have seen in a couple of primaries. It works well and works reliably.

I'm sure there must be some commerical providers who can cater to the primary school market, but as yet I haven't been able to find them!

Any other suggestions welcome please!

This company:

http://www.schoolcare.co.uk/are very good at doing the whole solution and offering ongoing support. They do a lot of primaries and they really do know what they are talking about.

I use them for both my schools because they will sit down and really get to grips with what you want and if you dont know they are happy to suggest things. PM me for more details

Great. Thanks very much for that, witch.

They're a new one on me. I'll check them out tomorrow and see what their coverage is like for Herts.

Many thanks indeed

How can a vanilla windows network be their own? I r teh confuzzed?

NS Optimum may be a good option for a school wanting a company to come in and setup/support, certainly worth a look/quote

I know they're not particularly popular on here but they do vanilla setups and are probably on par with Viglen/RM these days

A network using only in-built Windows features where they have produced their own policies etc. to lock down the system for use in a primary school. Apologies if my use of vanilla was inaccurate.

Another option maybe to employ your own technician to carry out the install and cover the ongoing support. Might be a more flexible option to fit in with the specific needs of your school.

Thanks that might be an option too.
