Windows 8 install - error on rebooting

Hello

my assistant has installed windows 8 on a fizzbook but on rebooting it has come up with the message " Sorry the boot certificate has expired" it asks for a 10 digit code to unlock or shut down. this has locked me out of the bios and any start up menu's, I cant even get to safe mode, it says contact the administrator....that is me, I am at a loss, any ideas?

Windows 8 does some sort of verification with the BIOS in place of a key-based authentication. and since the BIOS on this machine probably pre-dates the functionality Windows 8 expected, it caused this behavior.

 

With this being a FizzBook I assume it has Intel Components, it does not have anything like what has been said in this PDF Document does it:

Thank you for your reply, unfortunately the RM pdf wasnt any help, after reading lots of forums, I have come to the conclusion that this is a big issue with trying to install windows 8 on any older equipment, it basically turns them into a brick, no way out of this so far.

what happens if ypu remove the hard drive?

Hi tried with the hard drive removed, it made no difference, this change is at bios level. Zoostorm, whom make the Fizzbooks have no online support either, the fizzbook is too old and is discontinued....oh well learn something new all the time.

if you have a second identical one can you boot the other up swap bios chip and re flash the bios chip

I also fell foul of this issue, like you I was curious how Windows 8 would run on one of these, then found that Windows 8 does some kind of check and in doing so destroys any chances of having it run properly again. There is a around it but it is not a permenant fix:

 

When the fizzbook starts, press delete as though you were going into the BIOS

It will then display the familiar message you have got "Sorry, the computer boot certificate.."

Press Ctrl + INS

Then you should have a menu to choose to get into the BIOS setup.

Change the system to date to the year 2000.

Now you can boot into your O/S

Unfortunately as soon as you change your system date to 2013, you have the same problem again!

I personally think Microsoft are liable for essentially bricking a lot of older motherboards, I have seen many people have the same problem online as this. No warning at all is given by MS about this before you attempt to install Win8!
