Creating application forms

Hi everyone,

 

I am having real trouble with this - our old forms were shocking and couldn't be filled on a computer because they were essentially word documents with HUGE tables on them, made of tiny little cells etc - so we decided to re-do them as fillable pdf's.

 

Now I am beginning to regret this idea, because it doesn't seem consistent.

 

I created in Adobe acrobat X - and tested it could be filled in on foxit as well.

 

But other people can't fill it in - some can, some can't.

 

Tell me guys - is it worth bothering? It just seems so nice to have a well presented pdf form to be filled in, but I think it is the Emerald city I will never reach because there is no standardisation with pdf readers.

Have you looked at info path, can do computer filable forms, web base them and tie the output into a database, SharePoint or email.

Although PDFs are 'supposed' to be universal there are features in latter versions that don't exist in earlier versions. I suspect if using Adobe Reader 6, 7 or 8 this could explain why some users have problems.

 

I seem to recall that in Adobe Acrobat Pro you can specify a minimum Adobe Reader version required. This would then notify the user to download a newer version (in theory of course)

Would google forms do what you want. Its free, very easy to use and anyone can access if needed.

Ok, I am half way through but a bit lost and unsure that I am doing this correctly. I have created a form - emailed it to myself at work and it is fine - fab!

 

Emailed it to my hotmail address...not so fab.

 

What am I doing wrong? I have sharepoint workspace 2010 - although to be honest, not the slightest clue what to do with it!
