mattianuk Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Any hints/tips on upgrading from SP1 to SP2?
glennda Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Backup before doing it - and remember this requires services to be restarted and also a reboot i think off the top of my head.
mattianuk Posted January 21, 2013 Author Posted January 21, 2013 Will do, got VEEAM so that's easy to do!
glennda Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Will do, got VEEAM so that's easy to do! Always nice! Been working on veeam stuff for last couple of days. It should be a simple case of running the installer and away it goes. Are you using DAG groups?
apeman Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Be aware that exchange sp2 will extend your Active directory schema as well, so make sure you have a current backup of that and the account you use to install the service pack is able to extend the schema
mattianuk Posted January 22, 2013 Author Posted January 22, 2013 Thanks all. RE backing up schematic, is that just the same as exporting it?
mattianuk Posted January 22, 2013 Author Posted January 22, 2013 I assume not, as Im not aware of what they are?!
sukh Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Do the read the "Read Me" notes as there are a few recommendation in there to set the execution polict otherwise Exch will break and you will have to recover Exch. Also, if you have multiple AD sites, start off with the internet facing site 1st, and start with the CAS roles 1st then the others. You can backup the schema but I dont think you will roll that back, and I have never seen Exch schema update only ruin AD.
psydii Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 In addition: Disable exchange aware anti-malware before installing. Make sure that the MS CRL's are reachable by the host during boot - otherwise it will hang for 40+ minutes during reboots. The same is true for the update rollups (don't forget to install those after moving up to sp2 - I think we're up to Rollup Update 5 v2 at the moment)
mattianuk Posted January 23, 2013 Author Posted January 23, 2013 Update roll ups - righto. Where do I get these, and can I just install the latest one?
psydii Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 (edited) Read this Install the Latest Update Rollup for Exchange 2010: Exchange 2010 Help Executive Summary: Once you've got SPx you only need to install the latest update rollup to keep current, until you are ready for the next SP. Don't forget about Disabling AV, and ensuring the CRL's are reachable before you begin the install. Check everything after installation. Don't forget to re-enable AV when you are done. Check everything again. Edited January 23, 2013 by psydii
sukh Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 you can install the latest RU alone, that will be fine. As fir the CRL its a pain, either make sure your exch has an internet connection or disabled the check for crl under IE options.
mattianuk Posted January 23, 2013 Author Posted January 23, 2013 Am I being dumb,? Never heard of CRL? Installed SP2 successfully, and did some 114 wu whilst I was at it.
sukh Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 If you got an internet connection then you will be fine.
