I'm guessing MS are not selling quite as many copies of Windows 8 as they wanted to with the offer they are currently running.

 

While I don't really like what I've seen of Windows 8, at that price, it's a little bit of a temptation to upgrade with the hope that it can only get better. Or will Windows 8 be the next Me with a better version of Windows out in the next few years? Thoughts?

If i had the choice of Windows 8 for £0.99p or Windows 7 for £99 i would choose Windows 7. I am not averse to new interfaces i quite happy flicked to Mac OS X, and iOS and Android, but there is somthing very VERY wrong with Windows 8, its a bad interface.

In my experience, I rarely use the new features or interface (provided you know what you are doing). I am liking the new task manager though and it has been rather stable for me! Lack of DVD playback support is a massive irritation though.

bought it when it came out. Its not perfect but not metro has grown on me

I still fail to understand why people bemoan the interface. I've yet to see it, except when I accidentally mash start key and a random button somewhere. Install classic shell then for little money you've got a decent, reliable and fast(er than 7) OS that boots damn quick even on mechanical storage and a few nifty features. Why the hell not.

+1. You would have to be mad not to (especially if you can get it for £14.99 with or without using the loophole)!

After February, Windows 8 goes back to its regular price. This was only an introductory offer as @flyinghaggis mentioned above.

Windows 8 is nothing like Windows Me. Even if you don't like or use the Metro apps, you can install a third-party Start Menu replacement and pretend it's Windows 7 (but much faster and more secure).

It is much faster on the five PCs I have upgraded so far and is actually less demanding than Windows 7 was.

ive noticed no real improvement or degredation except win8 boots really quick (but then if an i7 with a 256gb ssd and 16gb ram cant run an os quickly there something wrong lol)

 

main thing i like hyperv on desktop os and the new card games lol

If you are on Windows XP/Vista then go for it. If you are on Windows 7 then do you really need to? By the time Win 7 is outdated, a new version of Windows will have been released (MS are going faster with release cycles!). I question the value from 7 to 8 having done that myself out of necessity.
