Copyright law please help!

Is it legal, if I download files from the Internet and then upload them on the school VLE for students to use. The VLE is password protected and different rights are given to different members. Some are given 'write' access which means that the user can download the resources.

 

Please can anyone help?

It depends on the copyright associated with each file. Assume the answer is no unless it says otherwise for what you want

At the moment, there isn't an exclusion for VLE distribution of files (such as music/video) so it is more than likely illegal. However, the law is being changed soon to make it easier to do this.

 

The relevant law is this - Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988
