Windows Server 2008 R2 RDS on Hyper-V

In server 2003 it was recommended that if you virtualise a terminal server farm, each host would only be given a single core to work with. If you went multi-core, it would actually end up slowing everything down.

 

However, I can't find any mention of such things with regards to Server 2008 R2 RDS session hosts.

 

Am I right in thinking that RDS works better with multiple cores when virtualised, as it is somewhat designed for the purpose now?

 

So, would a farm consisting of 2 virtualised hosts on 2 separate boxes work well with 6 virtual processors each and 32GB RAM? To cover about 80 thin clients? (All run from SSD on a shared storage device, working over 10GbE between the Hyper-V machines and the storage unit).

I would treat RDS servers just as you would any normal desktop PC and run them on the hardware direct without going through any VMs.

They're not getting hardware of their own. No way, no how.

As far as I recall they put all sorts of work into making it run fine on VMs.

I have an RDS farm and all servers which are Hyper V VMs are using 2 virtual processors. No issues.
