[sims] SIMS and XML (Might be more Office related issue)

Hi

 

We have recently started to migrate to Windows 7, and the Data Admin lady produces reports in SIMS which then attaches them onto the relevant pupil.

 

When she uses her XP Pro desktop running Office 2010 it goes through fine. When she uses her Windows 7 laptop running Office 2010, when it opens Word it prompts her to convert a XML file shows here:

 

 

When she opens a XML file directly from the network, it prompts her for this. When I login as a Admin and open the same XML file from the network it doesn't prompt me to convert the file.

 

 

Has anyone got any ideas?

Some thoughts:

Is the file association for .xml set to the XML Editor?

Did the laptop previously have another older version of Office?

If you log in to PC then she logs into SIMS and carries out the task is it okay?

Check in Word: File | Options | Advanced | General - third option to confirm file format conversion on open is ticked or not, also the section below on compatibility, you could change it for All Documents.

This worked, the XML was associated to Word, It's a new build so no previous versions, BUT...it worked ok for me. So I am wondering if it is picking the "Confirm File Format conversion on open" from GP? But I haven't set any options for Word in GP

the file association should be XML Editor, this will ensure, SIMS spreadsheets in .xml format open in Excel etc. basically it will sort it out for you based on headers, you don't want it to be specifically fixed to Word.

as for the setting, with sufficient user rights, i think that is user set, so if you change if for that user, it should stay off, assuming that is the issue.
