[sims] What versions of SQL is SIMS supported on?

Hi,

 

I am just wondering what specific versions, SP and CU update is SIMS supported on please? When doing SQL updates don't want to jump the gun by going to far.

Capita says to apply all the latest windows updates, which is good, I would however recommend you avoid CU as they tend to get rolled back or updated frequently, so unless you have a specific problem, avoid. If its something important, it'll get rolled into a SP. I've yet to see a particular CU that has me rushing to install, even the security are normally blocked by a different layer of security, or the risk isn't worth it.

Yes thought that was the case. Didn't plan on going to 2012, just want to check with the SQL updates.

 

I assume when updating SQL you just do it the usual way you would with any other SQL database?

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 support has been introduced for SIMS and FMS only from the Autumn 2012 release. Customers should not migrate to SQL2012 if they have InTouch, SLG, Discover or SOLUS3. Please read the release note carefully for more details on SQL2012 support.

@FN-GM - yer, Windows Update, do not reboot - then have a scheduled reboot out of hours (not on a Monday, Sunday, Saturday or Friday) - unless you don't mind (maybe) losing your weekend

Ahem, The office 2010 CU from 2011 was quite a useful one, especially for generating individual reports.

As for updates, i just do them periodically or when the server / NM complains. They don't / shouldn't affect data, you should be able to roll back an update without any issue. Or you can just switch back to an old snapshot and restore a backup.

Very true, however Servers\SQL are a different beast, don't care what happens to a desktop as the worst thing that could happen is you have to rebuilt it - or get a spare out the cupboard (trys not to laugh), server goes down, then you're looking at spending the weekend in a darkend room.

I have Office installed on the server. It's typical of a support flowchart to ask 'does it work on the server?', but i see your point.
