Thousands of Americans have signed a petition calling on the White House to build a Death Star.

 

The founder of the campaign says construction of the moon-sized space station and inter-stellar weapon from the Star Wars film series will strengthen national security and create jobs.

And?

 

All that means is that [someone] has to "consider" it. Other things like this have gotten enough signatures and all they got in response was a flat no.

The US government has posted a response to the petition:

 

The Administration shares your desire for job creation and a strong national defense, but a Death Star isn't on the horizon. Here are a few reasons:

 

• The construction of the Death Star has been estimated to cost more than $850,000,000,000,000,000. We're working hard to reduce the deficit, not expand it.
  
• The Administration does not support blowing up planets.
  
• Why would we spend countless taxpayer dollars on a Death Star with a fundamental flaw that can be exploited by a one-man starship?...

Tax payers dollars would be far better spent on high-powered 50kW lasers, remote controlled weapons/drones and more servers for NSA data centers.
