For some time I have been using Openfiler as an iSCSI target between 2 machines on a HP MicroServer. It's come to a point where I would like to share this iSCSI target as a mapped network drive across the whole school.

 

I kind of already know the answer to this but, is it possible to do this?

The simplest approach is to have the machine that is using the iSCSI target reshare it (assuming it's a Windows Server). You can get Openfiler to expose it directly but it can be a little fiddly to get it working right.

I was thinking of using a Windows server to reshare it but that would just create a bottleneck in the chain of things. I was hoping to have a direct share where it's end users --> openfiler rather than end users --> windows server --> openfiler

 

Seems like the simpler thing to do is install Windows 2008 R2 on it and go from there... hmm.

That would depend on your environment. Why did you use Openfiler in the first case?

You can't share the iscsi target with monre than one machine so you will have to re-architect what you have to do what you want to acheive.

yes but via a mapped drive multiple people can share a drive, whereas via ISCSI its not so easy
