[sims] [Solved] Permissions to allow TA's to take registers.

Hi all,

 

This is probably a bit of a newbe question, but the SENCo here wants all her TA's to be able to take registers. I'm trying to set up a group to allow this and have a test user. Each time this test user tries to open a register Sims crashes. I'm guessing this is a permissions issue and I haven't granted all the required bits, but being new to Sims permissions I'm getting nowhere fast. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what permissions are necessary for this? Also is there a handy tool or resource where all this stuff is documented?

Look on supportnet http://support.capitaes.co.uk/newlogin/login.asp

You will need a login but its free if you have SIMS.

On supportnet you will find the sims permissions sheet which lists all permissions.

We always add staff to 4 user groups by default and these allow them to take a register:

 

Attendance Operator

Class Teacher

Profiles Operator

Teachers Desktop User

You only need the Class Teacher one. Thats the only one that 90% of my staff have.

Thanks for the replies, found the permission that was causing the crash; was down to Attendance -> Tools -> Edit Codes. I'd created a new group using the Teaching Assistant & Attendance Operator as templates, but the Business Manager here is very particular about who has access to what in Sims, so couldn't leave the permissions as the default. Had to go through enabling one by one until I narrowed it down, but got there in the end after you guys pointed me in the right direction so thanks for the help. Also registered with SupportNet, but going to take a day or to to set up my account.

+1 to that.

 

Giving them operator rights is way too much. But you may now find that if you take away that permission and they have been used to doing things that they now can't.

Operator isn't really for using a module it's aimed at the assistant of the Attendance / Profiles Manager for example, so they have high level rights to edit the system setup in those modules.

Potentially, your teachers (and TAs) can go in and wreck your assessment system, by deleting templates and aspects.
