Hyper V host - Time Sync

I seem to be having a time issues with one of our physical servers and virtual servers. I am fairly new to this network that i have inherited so still getting to grips with it.

 

We have server 2008 Core installed with the hyper V role installed.

We then have a virtual guest installed on this server running server 2003 sp2

 

The host server loses its time and is currently out by 15 minutes after resyncing.

The virtual server is a head of time by 20 minutes

 

The host server is set to sync with the PDC emulator, i can do a resync and it corrects the time but then falls behind again.

 

I am at a loss with this now has any one any advice?

Usually the VM time will be taken from the Host server. Do you have integration services enabled in the settings of the VM?

Yes i do, i have been reading alot of articles that advise you to keep it enabled.

I would personally (and we do)l make all the machines sync with one server (usually a DC), that gets its time from an external source. Then on all the VMs disable the syncing of time in the integrated services.

 

When I had time issues, I tracked down where each server was getting its time from one by one and found the problem in the chain, that is probably your best option.

We found that our DC would creep out of time when setup to sync via integrated services, by the end of the week it'd be 10 minutes out, as above I'd rely on an external source and forget about integrated services syncing
