We have a touch screen computer with windows 8 pre-installed, In windows 7 when you click in a text entry box a keyboard icon appears under it to bring up the keyboard. But in windows 8 it only works in metro apps but not in the desktop. Does anyone know how to get to the options for the tablet PC Input Panel keyboard or where in the registry it stores the settings in windows 8 as the options seems to be removed in windows 8.

I have been wondering about this one myself. I did an inplace upgrade to my dell tablet and now there is keyboard icon on the taskbar instead of sliding in and out from the side. I think I might prefer this option since I usually use the handwriting with the stylus or the physical keyboard anyway.

just out of interest which model of dell tablet you got? We upgraded a Latitude ST tablet and since then its been impossible to use just keeps going to 100% CPU usage.

It is the latitude XT the first one. The upgrade was fairly smooth but I did have in on windows 7 first. I have found that the pen is very flaky though the touch does seem to work ok. I have also found that running a second screen from the media slice is a bit dodgy (though it might be the screen).
