Theldron Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Hi all, This may sound like an obvious question but, I have setup HAP on a server and it is working well. But how do I go about giving access to this externally? Do I have to setup a VPN server to do this? Cheers
nickbro Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Contact your ISP/LA to route port 443 traffic down to that server. You'll prob need a DNS entry for hap. hap.school.la.sch.uk => la => reverse proxy => your server
Theldron Posted November 28, 2012 Author Posted November 28, 2012 Hi Nick, thanks for the reply. I have HAP installed on a server and I can access it internally through https://servername/hap, when you say add a DNS entry how do you mean? Sorry if I am being dumb
localzuk Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 You need an externally facing IP and DNS record (eg. hap.school.sch.uk) pointing at that IP. You then need port 443 open, and routed to that internal server.
mattgrimley Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 in short, call your ISP Most schools have their router managed by their service provider anyway and they should be able to do this for you. They will need to know what you want the DNS name to be (i.e. portal.school.lea.sch.uk or hap.school.lea.sch.uk) and they will need to know the internal IP address of your hap server. In essence, they should be able to do the rest for you!
