Crashplan on mac

Ok so i have installed the crashplan agent on my mac but it refuses to open just comes uo with:

"unable to connect to backup engine, Retry?"

but on my pc and server its working fine.

 

i have all software updates upto date and java installed

Where did you install it to? Pretty sure it had to be in a certain place on Mac's to work, will try to find the kb.

The full path to the CrashPlan.app file must be /Applications/CrashPlan.app. If you've moved or renamed CrashPlan.app, you may see the “Unable to connect to the local backup engine” error upon starting the CrashPlan desktop. To resolve this, uninstall and reinstall CrashPlan.

crashplan was working on my mac until i reimaged it, it is installed in the default location and i have looked at stopping and starting the service but to no evail

What do you see when you open the Java Preferences app (in /Applications/Utilities)?

I am unable to find the Java preferences app

That must mean you do not have Apple's version of Java installed. Did you install Oracle's JRE? If not, try downloading the latest version from here (jre-7u9-macosx-x64.dmg).
