Launching program in different resolution

Hi guys,

Got a prog called Dance eJay for Schools - pretty funky and intuitive but the network version calls for 1024 x 760 res but the screens are set by default to 800 x 600 because of the other toss software thats running on them.

 

I let em access the exe for the program through a batch file and was wondering there is a way to call for the screen res to be changed using the batch when they call the app?

 

Clients are XP Pro and 2000 Pro on AD Network

Backwards compatibility is easy but this has me scratching my nuts a bit.

on Win9x you need the 'QuickRes' Powertoy installed for it to work.

Dance eJay is more software produced by Satan. Dreadful install, crappy licensing structure. Yuck.

I kept finding Dance eJay installed on various machines before the summer, so I kept deleting it thinking that it was the pupils. Then I got a phone call from the Behaviour (sorry... Pupil) Support teacher wondering why, every time she installed it, it was disasppearing shortly after.

 

One quick lesson on product licensing later... And I still haven't found out how she managed to actually install it as she doesn't have those rights.

i should really finish the helpdesk i've been planning for ages [stupid linux hehe ] which is gonna have all the info for teachers and staff and pupils so that they can.....help themselves [for a change].

 

One point will a big NO INSTALLING SOFTWARE - hmmm maybe on each page of the site lmao

Dance eJay is truly diabolical

We have it in our music department and have been trying to get it working properly for the last 2 years.

 

I doesn't like onboard sound with certain chipsets, so we got soundblaster cards, then discovered it doesn't like Durons so we replaced the machines this year, to discover it still isn't happy about the Soundblaster cards either.

 

Short of going for some Audigy cards we are at a loss and looking for replacement software.

@GrumbleDook: I had Dance eJay running on Durons with onboard C-Media sound in my last job!

 

You could always just use Macs - which are looking like a very cost effective option from my preliminary research.

Our music room is detached from the rest of the network. Audgy cards with P4s I think. They were setup by an outside company who specialise in setting up music rooms (keyboards/headfones/software/pc setup) as a peer to peer package.

Im going to have the lovely task of making them their own mini domain after xmas

Its got some horrible lockdown software on each pc aswell :/

Thankfully the music teachers are interested in learning and using IT so ive had very few problems from them.

eJay is currently working fine No doubt ill burn down a few villages before getting it working in the new year

Not sure if this will help.. but

 

if you have windows XP clients, you can create a shortcut to a .exe, then right click it, click compatability then run in 640x480 mode.

 

I know it works on a local machine, not sure if it will work how u want it to.

Just to update this about your problem on the resolution there is a fix on the empire interactive site to make a network installed copy of ejay run at 800 x 600

 

Now if I could get it to work at all with anyone apart from admin that would be good.
