Web page takes minutes to resolve at peak times

Good Morning all,

 

I've got a bit of a problem with internet speed only at peak usage times around the school, we are experiencing an odd slow down issue, website addresses take around 3 minutes to resolve in multiple different browsers (IE Firefox Chrome) but once they resolve they are downloaded in milliseconds. We have a fast connection speed (fibre 100mb) and 1Gb internal network speeds two DNS servers running 2008 and forwarders with google top of the list. smoothwall filtering and a Cisco ASA box.

 

Does anyone have any other possible ideas? would DNS Server loading be an issue?

Sounds like a DNS issue; when I've had this before my domain controllers (i.e. internal DNS) had the wrong forwarders set, so there was a 15 second delay on any page loading but then it went lightning quick when it did load. Sounds like your DNS is set, so not sure, but might be worth double checking your forwarders and your root hints.

 

Does your ISP not provide DNS servers for your connection? May be worth trying them instead of Google DNS.

Thanks for the info, I'm suspecting its a DNS prob more and more..

 

it's a standard BT business connection so those forwarders should be easy to find )
