Folder Redirection on Windows 7: Users has to logon twice

Hi,

We have Server 2008 R2 domain with Windows 7 Clients. Folder Redirection been setup to redirect users Desktop & Documents.

Users log-in to the network for the first time has to logon twice on the same computer before their Desktop & Documents is redirected Else anything they save it in their Desktop/Documents are saved locally.

 

(When I say logon twice it means: they have to logon first & wait until they get their desktop; then log off and logon back again.)

 

Has anyone faced this sort of issue? and what sort of solution is available.

Sounds very odd.. first place I would check is Event Viewer to see why folder redirection is failing.

 

Does this happen everytime they login a new computer i.e. one they haven't logged in before or is it just for new user who haven't logged into the network at all?

This only happens for the new users who logon to the network for the first time.

I'd say you might want to check your default profile. Make sure you havent deleted the empty folders from your default profile, they are required for folder redirection to work properly.

default profiles are not deleted; they are there.

Folder redirection policy application has been delayed until the next logon because the group policy logon optimization is in effect.

 

System Event has:

Event id:1112

The Group Policy Client Side Extension Folder Redirection was unable to apply one or more settings because the changes must be processed before system startup or user logon. The system will wait for Group Policy processing to finish completely before the next startup or logon for this user, and this may result in slow startup and boot performance.

You need to Enable the Group Policy in Computer Configuration\System\Logon 'Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon'. This should fix the issue.
