Adding start menu icons via Group Policy

Hi All,

 

 

We want to customise the All programs menu to have a select few programs for a student login.

 

E.g.

word

excel

program1

program2

IE

 

Whats the best way to do this? I asked a similar question with Desktop icons which involved redirecting the folder to a shared folder on the server.

Are you looking at just adding shortcuts to the 'Programs' menu or looking to give 'Students' an entirely different 'Program' menu?

Give them shortcuts to various programs only.

If they are the only users of these computers, then I would look at redirecting the 'Programs' folder to a network drive.

 

Then it's easier to update if you need to add shortcuts.

Hi, No there is about 50 odd PCs. And I wish to lockdown the programs menu of the students login.

In GP, you can redirect the start menu to a folder on the server. Then you can add whatever shortcuts you want into that folder.

I use GPPs to contruct the student start menu, you can then build in checks to see if the program is actually installed therefore avoiding dead links.
