burnsyb0y Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Hey, me and my line manager are looking to upgrade the ram in our Dell Poweredge T610 and our Dell Poweredge T410, We know we need 10600 ECC registered ram and we are looking to get two 4GB sticks and put one in each machine. Could anyone recommend any specific brands or sellers? Thanks, burnsyb0y.

SYNACK Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 You may need to put the RAM in in pairs as some motherboards, especially server one require it. Grab a couple of 8GB kits, 2X4GB each and use them. We have used Kingston Server grade RAM which is waaaay cheaper than branded hp RAM. HP RAM is generally Infion but I have had issues with the non hp branded stuff from them. It seems they only supply the good stuff to hp. Crucial is another brand to look at, again have had better luck with it when it was big brand vendor branded.
difinity Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Another recommendation for crucial. They have a nice memory advisory tool to ensure you get the correct stuff. They also make their own memory, unlike Kingston.

synaesthesia Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Another vote for the Kingston stuff. Found the cheapest supplier last week to be, yes, wait for it - RM. £100 for 2 x 8GB modules. I also implore you to get more than you need assuming your motherboard will take it. It's cheap as chips, and may well help you out in future.
Guest Guest Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Last time I bought RAM for a Dell machine, I ran the Crucial system scanner, and hit Dell's website pretty hard for technical specs, ordered the RAM and found it didn't work propperly. No matter the combination of identical sticks that I put in the different slots, I couldn't get the stupid machine to pickup all the sticks. Ended up ordering some from Dell and it worked.
VeryPC_Ed Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Kingston ram is usually pretty spot on, we use it in our server builds and have had very minimal failure rate. Also the lifetime warranty doesn't go amiss. PM me if you want some pricing / availability.
