Does anyone know how to disable the annoying toolbar popups? Here is an example. annoy.png. One also appears when you hover over the Start menu icon; it very helpfully says "Start". I don't need them and they mess up many of my screen captures. I want all of them gone!

Mr Google suggests various registry keys in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

"ShowInfoTip"=dword:00000000

"FolderContentsInfoTip"=dword:00000000

"StartButtonBalloonTip"=dword:00000000

"EnableBalloonTips"=dword:00000000

"ShowInfoTip"=dword:00000000

"EnableBalloonTips"=dword:00000000

"StartButtonBalloonTip"=dword:00000000

"FolderContentsInfoTip"=dword:00000000

I've set these up and one has disabled the popup which occurred when the mouse pointer hovered over a directory open in explorer, but I don't know which one and I suspect most of the above do nothing. StartButtonBalloonTip did not disable the popup when you hover over start.

Thanks!

The last time I looked at this, the general consensus was you can't. You have two choices. Choice one: ignore them - damn difficult if your doing screen captures which involve a lot of mouse movements. Choice two: change to an operating system where you can turn them off - Linux or XP. If I'm doing a screen capture, I use a second monitor and run the capture on that. M$ have yet to stretch the taskbar to the second monitor, but I suspect they might in a future release just to piss us all off.

That'd be Windows 8 then! (however, you can select only one monitor, thankfully!)
