X-13 Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 El nombre de nuestra red, to be exact. [That's "The name of our network" in Spanish.] I've got to sort out our internal domain name, but I can't think of anything good. [by good I mean slightly humorous and/or geeky] Apparently, we HAVE to use the .Internal suffix. I wanted to use "Aperature-Labs.Internal" with the server being "GLaDOS", but I'm not too sure. And I'm bad at spelling. NOTE: Yes. Yes, I am allowed to give our network a silly name. Le Pre-post EDIT: Holy bejeezus! Aperature Labs is a real company.
sparkeh Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 (edited) Um.. Umbrella-corporation.internal with the server as red-queen? Edited October 25, 2012 by sparkeh
X-13 Posted October 25, 2012 Author Posted October 25, 2012 Um.. Umbrella-corporation.internal with the server as red-queen? It's a bit long. And is also a real company. Lots of Vidyagaem nerds out there, it seems.
Popular Post jinnantonnixx Posted October 25, 2012 Popular Post Posted October 25, 2012 (edited) Don't give it a silly name. You'll get bored of it. That said, we we named our SAN 'Daniel', but it wasn't legally registered. Karate Kid fans will appreciate the joke. Edited October 25, 2012 by jinnantonnixx 5
sonofsanta Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 .internal is a good idea as .local causes issues with Macs, iirc. blackmesa.internal, in a similar vein. skynet.internal. matrix.internal may be too obvious. in fact, do you have to use .internal, or just not .local? could have sesame.street and name your servers BigBird, Elmo, Oscar, Snuffleupagus...

X-13 Posted October 25, 2012 Author Posted October 25, 2012 (edited) blackmesa.internal, in a similar vein. If we were keeping Admin and Curriculum seperate, I'd do that. Black Mesa and Aperature Labs. Um... that's like, a very weird site. I said real. Not logical and/or not a scam. But, I actually meant to link this. Seems legit-ish. Edited October 25, 2012 by X-13
sonofsanta Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 If we were keeping Admin and Curriculum seperate, I'd do that. Black Mesa and Aperature Labs. But which domain would you put Borealis in? (and this is really petty, here, but Aperture. It's giving me a twitch seeing it misspelt)
X-13 Posted October 25, 2012 Author Posted October 25, 2012 (edited) (and this is really petty, here, but Aperture. It's giving me a twitch seeing it misspelt) Hense, why I'm asking for suggestions. I can't spell. But which domain would you put Borealis in? Stand alone Linux machine. Part of both networks, understood by none of the staff. Edited October 25, 2012 by X-13
sonofsanta Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 But, I actually meant to link this. Seems legit-ish. Looks like the Japanese version of the Resi site, tbh, logo is the same - just differently coloured. Skynet is out if you don't want to use real companies/systems, though, might confuse the UK military if you use skynet.internal.
sonofsanta Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Stand alone Linux machine. Part of both networks, understood by none of the staff. Lost somewhere in an overly air-conditioned room? Perhaps the walk-in freezer in the school kitchen...

sonofsanta Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Apparently, they're tech support. Then perhaps the whole Resident Evil series is a damning satire on the idiocy of users and how working tech support feels like being the only person in the city with a brain? WHO KNEW

WHO KNEW Subtext! I wonder how zombie crocadiles fit into it. Lost somewhere in an overly air-conditioned room? Perhaps the walk-in freezer in the school kitchen... Indeed. Perhaps it'll be a special overclocked cluster server. [Thus needing the air-con to stay cool.] Edited October 25, 2012 by X-13
DMcGuigan Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Wait... X-13 not naming stuff after ponies?! What is this madness?!

X-13 Posted October 26, 2012 Author Posted October 26, 2012 (edited) Well, it's done. ApertureLabs.Internal [Hopefully, with the server as GLaDOS.] I completely didn't notice the "First part must be between 4 - 12 characters." I also offered up exactly 55.3 internets if they got the reference... I don't think they did. All I got back was "I'll pass it on to the engineer." Edited October 26, 2012 by X-13
jumpinjamez Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Great name Just dont apply the Wheatley core upgrade. Previous experience shows it will cause you loads of trouble and can be a pain to remove.
X-13 Posted October 26, 2012 Author Posted October 26, 2012 Great name Just dont apply the Wheatley core upgrade. Previous experience shows it will cause you loads of trouble and can be a pain to remove. Cheers. We're leaving off a lot of the cores, but we're definately installing the Morality core. For a school, we sure have a lot of neurotoxin. We wouldn't want anything to happen...
X-13 Posted November 5, 2012 Author Posted November 5, 2012 LAAAAAAAAAME! The RM engineer turned up to do the new server and is just porting the old IDN and server name. He wasn't even told what we wanted it to be. Can anyone tell/show/link me how to change it after the fact? [i've seen a few guides, but I want a Edugeek approved guide.]
CAM Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 Madness? THIS! IS! BUSINESS! Le EDIT: Also, everything is ponies. Rule 34p - If it exists, there is a pony version of it. But I thought Rule 34 was...wait we better steer clear of that topic.
