Macbook? Shows wrong HDD size and can't format. New HDD.

Hi,

 

I've just been given one of our MacBooks with the flashing folder icon, no OS error.

 

I've just put in a new HDD and ran the install disk and it can't find the HDD on the install wizard.

 

The disk utility program show it as a 1 5tb HDD even though it's only 250gb. When I try and erase and format it just gives a IO error.

 

I've tried jumpering the two left and two right jumpers reading that this sometimes work but no luck.

 

I've also tried our imaging software to try and format but that just error.

Any ideas?

Just reading a bit more and everything seems to ok. It's probably a 06macbook but I'm trying a 250gb HDD".

 

Only thing I havnt tried is formatting in another machine or holding d on startup to run a hardware test. Will give it a go in the morning.
