Kindle Not Connecting to Wi-Fi

Has anyone else had trouble connecting kindles to their Wi-Fi? I've read there is a problem with Kindles connecting to enterprise networks but im wondering how other people using them have got them working....

 

The kindles can see the SSID but just tells me i cant connect.

 

All suggestions welcome,

If it needs more than ssid and wpa/wep key give up radius certificates proxys are all useless to a kindle

Works fine on my BT home broadband which has a hyphen in the ssid.

I recall you (or someone on this forum) saying that before. didn't work for me.

Works fine on my home Wi-Fi too. I might give a go at removing the hyphen as that's just about the only thing i havent tried. The proxy is another issue, surely the device should still connect to the netwok even if it doesnt have internet access?

well yes but as all it really does is connect to internet to authenticate/download books from amazon what other use is the wifi? I supose you could view internal webpages on it but as a browser it sucks

I'm cofident we can get round the proxy issue, but the Wi-Fi is a different story. Thanks for the input guys!

Check which wireless channel they are on. Kindles will only connect to certain channels as far as I remember.

 

"The Kindle was designed in the USA and so uses only the US Wi-Fi channels one to 11."

Why can't you create a secondary SSID named KINDLE (for example) with the same/different password?

 

As for the proxy, a transparent proxy would be ideal.

Working on this during half term. I've created a new SSID called Kindle with no authentication and still doesnt connect. I've tried just about every channel and even tried an old D-Link access point with no luck. Kindles Suck big time!

 

This is obviously very common as i've found loads of forums and website talking about it, but no one seems to have an actual answer other than "that's how they're made". Amazon need to sort it out.

Try hiding the SSID.

I had a problem with blackberrys that could only connect to hidden SSID's.

Which is the exact reason I refused to look after ours.

 

They were bought without anyone being told and I warned people they wouldn't work with our wi-fi.

I had a problem with my kindle on my home wifi... it would only ever connect with total unauthorised and none hidden ssid.

 

I fixed it by updating the firmware on my router (I guess it was using some old auth method that the kindle didnt like)

 

It then worked fine with hidden ssid and wpa2.
