A nice little utility you can download from the Microsoft Online Crash Analysis site http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

 

Creates a floppy or iso for perfoming memory diagnostics on a PC's RAM

Linux equivelent is memtest86. Its avalible on most Linux LiveCDs (eg Knoppix) as a boot option but you can also get a standalone floppy disk image and/or ISO if you prefer.

Its also worth noting that you should turn off your L1 and L2 cache in your BIOS (if you can) when testing memory. Caching sometimes masks those pesky intimittant errors.
