Web based e-mail providers

At the moment I have 2 emails, one hotmail/live and one gmail. [Available on request, if you want it. I don't know why you would...]

 

I'm thinking for phasing out my hotmail/live one and just using my gmail.

 

 

But, I have 2 questions.

 

1) Is there a benefit to using gmail over hotmail?

 

2) Are there any services that dislike gmail? [i'm guessing Xbox live doesn't like gmail.]

I can't think why one service would accept Hotmail but not accept GMail. Normally it is neither or every free web-based mail service getting blocked.

 

Mind you, they are more then just E-Mail addresses these days. Hotmail has links to Windows Live and GMail is a Google Account (for Google Drive, Google Plus, etc which may I add has plenty of Edugeekers on it ).

I have used Gmail since 2004 and never had a problem with getting it accepted anywhere. I even used it for msn(!) so the xbox might take it.

 

I prefer it since its spam filters are very good. Only once or twice have I had to look through the spam folder to find something. Also very little spam gets through it into your inbox. There are various themes and you can have multiple 'boxes' if you like. I also use Gtalk/Messange/Whatever-its-called-these-days and its handy that its inbuilt to it.

 

I've never used my hotmail account for anything, but Gmail wins hands down compared to my yahoo account.

I was thinking more propriety things.

 

XBL is Microsoft, as if Hotmail. So, it makes sense that they'd want you to use their service.

 

Likewise with Google and all the googly things... Like Youtube and G+

 

 

But, I just found out you can make a gmail account a "windows live account"... apparently.

 

 

Also, send G+ requests. I have it, but have never used it.

Oh, another plus is that the gmail app is one of the nicest email apps I have used.

I have heard some folk having random issues with access when they use a non gmail email address when create a Google account. Don't know first hand though.

I have a mailbox with Message Stream via @EduTech for my hosted exchange account on my personal domain - 3.70 a month i think it is.

Keep both, but just set hotmail to forward to gmail, that way you can use either for logins and not miss an email.

That is what I do. Never actually use hotmail as Gmail is much better.
