New network set up.

Hopefully this is the right forum,

 

Next summer holiday ive got to install a new server and computers

 

Ive never had to do this myself or look for the right hardware and software.

 

So where do I start?

Server 2003 SP2

17 computers on XP

200 laptops on XP (about half are upgradable to win7)

1st you need to determine the current, short term and long term requirements.

Like Rob said you need to look at what the requirements and driving factors are, out of curiosity what particular requirement is driving the change ?, is it just 'time for a refresh' or is there a particular problem you are trying to solve ?

 

Also a bit more information regarding how your current infrastructure is set-up such as how you handle user email (local or hosted/cloud), any other services running currently, what the spec of the current hardware you have including switch gear as all this and more will impact what you do moving forwards.

 

Do you have an existing licensing agreement / licenses available currently ?

 

What are you wanting to do post project ?, are your initial requirements just something like simple domain services with file & printer sharing or are you wanting to look at adding on other services at a later date ?
