CD DVD Drive not reading disks

Hi

 

I've got a computer that dual boots.

 

With Windows XP it reads disks fine.

 

When I boot in Windows 7 you can see the drive in my computer. When you insert a disk, it just sits there spinning. Doesn't load. The drive in my computer shows a blank disk. Just fitted an external dvd drive to it via USB and that does exactly the same so its not the drive.

 

Any ideas?

I would put a little money on it being some "legal malware" - something along the lines of rootkits installed with some software like Sony games (I'm guessing this isn't a school PC). A few broken programs like Daemon Tools have also been known to cause that.

Thanks for that. I'll have a look at the software thats on it (Correct its not a school PC)
