I've got a site where a MS2008 R2 server is set up as a print server. The printers on it are shared with x64 and x86 drivers as we have a mixed XP/Win7 desktop environment and are ticked to be in the directory listing. The printers are not appearing in the directory listing when adding printers but if you reshare the printer they appear. The printers can then be added to a PC. Overnight the printer mapping disappears on the PC and the printers again cannot be viewed in the directory llisting unless reshared.

All the printers are Kyocera and I thought that there mauy be a specific issue with this manufacturer however I've added a test HP4600 and get the same result.

Has anyone come across this before?

I've seen something like this with HP2600n's in my old school. We found that running a batch every hour to start and stop the spooler would reduce the issue, but people would complain as you can guarentee somebody will try to send a print job when the spooler is stopped \ restarting.

In my new school I've just had a follow me printing solution installed. All on Windows Server 2008 R2 and all machines are either HP or Sharp. No issues at all - so I think the issue is only with specific drivers.
